i have 12" inch mini apes on my FXDB and i cant afford new bars right now but im sick of seeing the wiring... Has anyone drilled out there bars and ran wires threw the stock bars? I dont see why it couldnt be done but i dont wana drill anywhere to sacrifice the strength of the bars. i was thinking drill right into the sides of the dimpled part under the controls right before the bar rounds out. any suggestions ?

 

the stock bars are stainless. get some good drill bits. if you have a custom bike shop in your area see if they will do it for you.i was quoted 25 bucks to mill them out.

 

get a set of step bits from harbor freight they are like 10 bucks and will cut though it like butter... i sold my stock bars to a buddy and did his after i did mine...

 

Could you post some pics of how your ran your wires? I am looking for the entrance and the exit pictures. Thanks

 

run the wires right in where the dimple is by the grip, and out where ever your measure it to be when the bars are on the bike, before you take them off find the center where you want them to come out mark that and then take off the bars... my buddy has a 1200 shadow it is about 2 hours away so i will not be able to get pics of how i did his. i have pics of mine if you want those
here is my exit pic... i wrap all my wires in a wire wrap to fatten them up... not the look everyone likes but i like it so...
