Default Fiberglass as a do-it-yourself baffle

What do you folks think about usingfiberglass waddinglike the kind found in some automotive mufflers as a baffle for bike pipes. There may be some motorcycle pipes that offer fiberglass but I don't know. Anyway, seems easy to me it would be easy to throw in there and shouldn't be to hard to retain it in place. I'm just wondering what it would be like for performance.

Dirt bikes have replaceable muffler packing. Here's the stuff. http://www.motosport.com/offroad/pro...&cat0=DIRT

You would need regular metal baffles, rap them with fiberglas CLOTH, not matte, tie with 3 or 4 metal wire ties to secure to baffles.

Wrapping your baffles with fiberglass works both ways.

Wrap it tight and result will be same or louder.
Wrap it loose, and it will tone it down some.

The link Baron has above is the right stuff, anywhere that sells dirt bikes would have it.

Default RE: Fiberglass as a do-it-yourself baffle

TGWP - I made a whole new baffle for my HD 2:1 for my '04 Dyna using mild steel diamond mesh. I welded two long pieces and cut a round end cap and started filling it in with smaller cut pieces. It was LOUD. But sounded good. To quiet it down I used Stainless Steel wire mesh pot scrubbers instead of glass. I did this out of need - not want. I left the stock baffle in my buds camper when in Daytona and he left with it - across the country - So I had to make a baffle or lose my hearing. A couple of days open header was fine but...
Yes it is tough to keep the glass in place - there is a lot of force out the pipe.
I now have a Screaming Eagle 2:1 and I took the baffle out and cut the stock glass down to one wrap. I used SS wire (3-4) to keep it in place. The SE is pretty loud stock and sounds good, but I may make something that makes the "megaphone" sound. Meaning the stock baffle is a small diameter pipe and I don't think you get the big sound.
Good luck - let me know if you want me to post a pic or two. dd
