Just wanted to bump this without making a new thread. Has anybody found a cheaper sportster tank already fitted to a dyna than maindrive's for 550? Or could a custom shop do it for cheaper? I don't know/have a welder so Id need someone to do it for me. I want to change up the look of my dyna, getting kinda bored.

thats not really a bad price. if the workmanship is quality. certainly is going to save you a ton of fitment issues.
you could get a sporty tank on ebay and bring it to a good fabricator to have it modified to fit your dyna. depending on what you get the tank for, it MIGHT be cheaper.
do a search for tanksbytigman, tell him hacksaw sent you. he will be glad to answer questions.

As a proud owner of a Maindrive tank I'm the first to tell you that the craftsmanship is top notch, fitment is beyond reproach. I'd like it a little more frisco'd, higher on the top tube, but it's nothing that can't be fixed....
Absolutely a bargain at his price. You could do it differently but I doubt you'd be any cheaper and I don't think it'd look as good as his tanks are proportionately legit!

i am inclined to agree with you, i just havent seen one in person and that can make all the difference. the one thing i dont like, and this would be true of any "sportster" tank used, is the dyna backbone is ugly . roland sands has a sheet cover to fit sporsters backbones behind the steering neck . something like that would be required by me to fit the dyna if i swapped tanks.
i would like to see how the narrowed superglide tank works out as well.
