The rear shocks on the fxdx are quite good - and are 13.5" eye to eye. lowering an inch will put you at standard SG height (at least in the rear).
Unless you go with performance shocks - anything you replace the stockers with will be inferior. I guess what I'm saying is - if you want to keep the performance of the fxdx - then buy high end shocks.

The FXDX is the thorobred of the Dynas, it was made to carve the canyons, it's probablyone of a fewHarleys that you can adjust preload and dampeningand spring preload up front to your weight. Keep your original suspension parts. Like special ed said your riding a potential collectible. Pay it off then a regular S/G and chop/ slam it.

Thats what I enjoy about this place the most. finally a place to get good advice from a lot of differant sources. Goin to try it more before I do anything ,Just looking at options for later. E8 it is paid for looking for a softtail nextto play with more, If this does turnout to be a collectible then your right no need to mess it up, cant wait to hit the mountains in E Kentucky for a few day.Still waiting on a manual to get here before I ride much, goin to change all the fluids first thing even if only has 15000 and was done not to long ago. I jsut like to know my own PM is done.

The FXDX/T's are the best handling big twins due to the adjustable suspension. I have an FXDXT; the shocks are 13.25"; I replaced mine with 12.5" 418's and lowered the tubes into the trees until they came to the handlebars; about 3/4". The bike still corners like no other HD; that's also due to the Sputhe engine mounts and aluminum swingarm, and about 50lbs reduction in unsprung weight...but anyhow; with the 3/4 inch shorter shocks and tubes slid up into the trees it handles the same and don't grind in fast sweepers. It's not the best choice if you really want to slam your ride; softails seem to be better to do that to. When you get the manual you'll see how to adjust the suspension or I can gladly send another long-winded post.
