Default motorcycle jack/lift

I've been looking for a jack lately but it seems that the dynas need an adapter for most jacks. Anyone have any thoughts on a good jack? My brother in-law bought one but I don't care to spend $500 for a jack. I have a 06 Streetbob.

I have a J&S Jack. You can check them out at www.jsjacks.com If you call them and ask for the HD Forum discount, you can save 10%. No adapters are needed for Dynas. Mine is stored on the jack right now. Check them out. Oh, they are made in the good old USA. [sm=americanasmiley.gif]

Drat has the best one out there from what I have read, or get the Sears red or yellow one, or the Harbor Freight, it's your money. There are about a bazillion posts on jacks on here so that is why you aren't getting much feedback. I have the red one, use blocks of wood for spacers, and it works fine, been sitting on it now for several months. My bike is lowered so I pull it up on blocks to fit the red jack under. Others have had problems. Just got to do what you want...

I've probably missed something somewhere, won't be the first time. Why would a Dyna need a jack adapter? I've got the red Sears ATV/Cycle jack and it works great. Just curious!

All newer model Dynas have a 7 inch across oil tranny plate that hangs down below the frame. Need adaptor to work around plate and level out the bike.

Thanks for the education. I noted that when I first lifted the bike, and the red lift avoids it. Since this is my first Dyna, I guess I thought that this had been a TC feature all along. Appreciate the info!

This horse has been beaten to death in the past but so have many other subjects. If you've done or will do a search, you'll see that this argument even gets heated at times. You can spend a little or a lot on a jack and I'm sure, for the most part, you get what you pay for. However, there is adequate and there is overkill. There are 2 schools of thought on the less expensive jacks (i.e. Sears Red Jack). Some have used it for years and some feel it's a piece of crap just waiting to fail and crash your bike. I use one and have had good results with it so far. I also personally know 2 other people that have had one for several years and have had good results. The jack is rated for well over the weight of your bike. But there are plenty of choices out there and as long as you get something that is made for your purpose and your weight, you should be fine, in my opinion.

As far as the adapters go, you can buy a set from HD for about $20 or so that are made specifically for the dyna frame on a lift. Or you can go homemade and make something that will work just as well. To me, for $20, it was easier just to buy them. There are 3 plastic blocks that are the same size that clip onto the frame and 1 smaller piece to put on the uneven corner at the right-rear corner of the frame so that, when you lift the bike, it comes up level. I have a couple of pix that may show what I'm describing. I didn't take these pix to show the adapters specifically so it may not show completely but you can get an idea.

J&S....no adapters and no tie-downs. Rock freaking solid.

Mine is plenty solid too with no tie downs and no adapters but I still wouldn't use it without. I'll use it now and then without the adapters if I'm not lifting up very far or for very long. But I'd never raise both wheels off the ground without using a tie down even if I had a table top lift.
