Quiet Baffles = Ticket for loud pipes

RE: Quiet Baffles = Ticket for loud pipes
All states and lots of cities are gradually coming on board with noise ordinances. It's just a matter of time, and we have no one to blame but ourselves. We aren't satisfied with mufflers that are a bit louder than stock to bring out the signature Harley sound that we all love. Instead they have to be as loud as we can get them, and people are getting fed up. We even try to convince ourselves that loud pipes save lives, which is a great excuse for running them, but there's no credible study to support it. I live a half mile from a busy freeway, and during certain weather conditions, I can hear loud bikes. I can't be sure they're all Harleys, butif I can hear themfrom my back yard, I'msurethey have very loud pipes. I don't mean to pick on just bikes either. There are lots of little modified street racers that are just as loud. Add their bone rattling trunk woofers to the mix, and they redefine the term 'obnoxious'. Get ready, pretty soon all LEOs will have certified DB meters, and there will be no way to beat a ticket. BTW, if you really want to safe your life, wear a helmet, and don't drink and ride.

I don't flame you for doing your job and the worst thing is this drinking and riding thing. Its dead guys and gals and if you keep doing it you or someone you care about is going to get hurt or even worst you are going to hurt some innocent person. I run quiet baffles on my bike and when riding I don't draw attention to myself by getting on thethrottlethe bike does that on its own.

Topspin...
Go to the Abate Website, Palm Beach County Chapter... You'll find a bit about the problem on A1A with noise enforcement and what they'd (Abate) would like you to do (in order to document the motorcyclist's case). Abate is looking at this issue quite closely.

I'm going to get flamed for this but here I go.
I am a LEO. And yes I have given out tickets for loud pipes.
Before you go off the deep end on me.
The Three tickets I've written were due to the riders having drag pipes or V&H with out the baffles in them.
The only reason I wrote them was because the guys were being smart asses by reving the **** out of the bike as they passed me.
Now this day was a big poker run going on and there were a lot of bike with some "non-compliant" pipes on their bikes.
All of them rode past me like it was just another ride but these three guys (all riding together) thought it was funny to do that in front of me.
I had the last laugh.
I give alot of breaks to bikers and some that really shoud get a ticket but non the less they get a warning.
All I ask is don't be an ***.

A year ago I got a ticket for the same thing by the same guy. So for the last year I have driven AROUND this town out of fear and respect. However... To get back on the road I travel I need to be in this town for 1 BLOCK. This is where he ticketed me. 1 BLOCK.
I will spend much more oney to fight this ticket than pay it.
I don't care.
Oh... and no more financial donations to ANY PD. I am angry.

They called up and asked for a donation - I told them OK - check is in the front door.
They called back next day "You forgot the check" ..... "No I did not - it's in the front door"
Same thing 2 days in a row. Kind of scary that the local PD can't find my house LOL.
Back on topic - I think most LEO are like OSP1340 - proper respect is a 2 way street.
Sounds like you ended up with a real dick - but I truly think they are in the minority.
Good Luck.

TopSpin,
How did the story end?
TopSpin,
How did the story end?
Went to court. I told my story. I beat it easily. Once I got in front of the magistrate it took only 5 minutes. She apologized for my loss of time at work (4 hours). She rides and asked alot of questions about my bike.
 \\;
However the 4 hours of sit and wait are much more expensive than the $75 I coulda just sent in.
(pipes are not a moving a violation in Florida... no points)
