Default Fatbob Tailight Mod........Verdict ?

I didn't like the way the tail light stuck out from the fender and am replacing it so here'swhat I did - Cost nothing but time - and still left it in such a way as it can be put back to standard easy .

1]Unbolt chrome rail covers
2]Unbolt tag retaining plate nuts - two each side
3]Unbolt turnsignal bolts and remove signals
4]Disconnect wiring from loom and remove tail light
5]Notch out front of bracket that sits under fender rails - see pic
6]Trim front of bracket so it dont stick out from under the fender
7] Slide modified legs of bracket between the fender and front re-enforcing plate -whentightened they will clamp it in place.
8]Make up spacer for signal mounts -alloy tube
9]Refit tag bracket approx 1 1/2 inch further back using the signal mountsas the firts mount.
10]Does not use original tag re-enforcing plate

Heres some pics

Original

I will get some better photos of the finished article when I get my wheel back on .

What do you think ?

I'm buying a Fatbob so I really want to understand: WHAT are you trying to do??? Make the tail light stick out of the fender further? I don't get it...........
Before/after picture would be great, I would have finished the project first, then get the before/after pic on the first post, I am not grasping this at all, except in the last picture you can see the tail light lense is further "back". "Back" can be confusing because you can interpret it either "out", or "back in", ie "frenched".

Gilly

The last photo is how it wasstandard the other photos show how much it has moved under the fender or in .

I will post photos of before and after but as I said the rear wheel is off at the moment and will get the bike back together when the puncture is sorted.

I think it looks much better tucked further in like I have managed to do IMHO

Yeah I see now, yeah from the side it looks better "in" (IN makes more sense to me).

Agree w/bd134 - looks MUCH cleaner.
But I'm sure MoCo stuck it out for night sight - from the side. I have the Bobber Fender (04 Dyna) and I spaced mine out about the same as your mod. But I also added lighted blinker LED wings (stays on) AND made the blinkers dual filament bulbs AND added a couple more bulbs in the light itself AND a blue dot (old school) AND LED tag lights (lower tag-bolt holes (early-American Import)).
All this and my bagger buds still claim they can't see me at night - make me ride in the middle.
I do like the new look of your light tho. But you may want to have a bud follow you at night and give you some feedback - if it's a concern.
Ride safe dd

it's subtle, that's for sure.

ya got more stickin out on the sides than my wide one does so i wouldn't worry about safety.

hell do what i do if yer ridin bros talk ****, say cya later geezer gliders & put the pipes on em!

and they can see your tail light fade in the distance
