ORIGINAL: kiltiemon

Tartan...

Since the tubes are closed on each end but have a hole drilled in them, melt some soft wax (bee's wax comes to mind) and pour into the tube instead of sand. Bend. Then heat up the tube and pour out wax. That should give support to the tube while you're bending it!

Jim aka kiltiemon
Never thought of that . Great idea..... Love this forum !!!!

looks great!
will definately be the subject of conversation wherever you go.
Plumbers have a tool that looks like a spring for bending tubing. A different size for each size of pipe, it just slips over the tube and holds it in shape when bending, then slips off when done. A person might want to put tape or some sort of protective film on the tubes to prevent scratching. Being stainless, you could just bend it and use green scotch brite pad to put the finish back on. BE SURE to only go in one direction though (up and down NOT twisting as you go)

Amazing what you can do with just a little bit of thought. One thing for sure, saves loads as racks are not cheap even in the UK.

Great stuff, Tartan. Aesthetically, I'd shave a couple of inches off the length, but it seems to follow the profile quite well. If you want to fill it with sand, could you drill a hole about an inch from the end & keep this underneath in the final weld up? And good luck welding, if it's stainless. You'll need TIG.

Well done, mate. Good job.
