For next time around use a K&N Oil Filter;
Has a nice nut to remove it when your done.
Plus, I think they are superior to H-D.

not to insult anyones intelligence but i didn't see anyone mention to make sure the new filter's gasket gets wiped with a coat of fresh oil and tightened hand tight. sounds like the old one went on dry, if seen that in automobiles. good luck

somebody moved my "f" and "V" key. I've seen the same thing on cars when the filter goes on dry.

understood the question real well, just trying to avoid the situation again. Thru my experience of tightening the oil filter 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn after the filter contacts the base I never had one leak on me but I suppose when one does real bad it could ruin your day. (02 FXD and 05 FXDLI). g' day and ride safe down there. kinda odd isn't it getting a message from yesterday or one from tomorrow?

Do what Chappy said . Use K&N filters. Better filtering than a Harley filter plus easy on easy off all for about a dollar more

ORIGINAL: jmpancoast

Made by Drag Specialties. Cost $10.00. Its one piece so not much to break. Works with a 3/8" drive ratchet. Has a cutout to protect Crank Positioning Sensor. Preserve your pride and pick one up.

That's the one I have. Last time I changed the oil I picked my bike up with a sky hook.

yea, gota get the one piece. always, always get the right tool for the job. the wrench pays for itself first time you use it - pretty good purchase if you ask me.
