I ordered my $1.70 washer. Does anyone know what size socket it takes for that steering head nut?

Installed washer this weekend per instructions and no more clunk! In fact when I bent old washer down, the steering nut was only hand tight.

You'll know if you have the problem. On my bike it is pretty obvious. If I go over a rough spot or bump while using the from brakes I get a clunk. I would probably change it anyway. I need to break down and order the new washer. I assume you need jack the bike up and check the fall away after you tighten the nut.

Instructions said to check fallaway after torque of nut. I do not have a lift, so didn't check but the front end feels okay for now. Atleast no more clunk.

Here's one for ya. I go into the dealer today to pick up a part and I go back to the service department to ask about this service bulletin, just to see what they will tell me. He tells me bring my bike in and they will fix it. Well, as I was talking to him I told him I was probably going to get the part and fix it myself since it is just a washer and all you have to do is replace it and torque it to spec. Then he says "There's no torque spec on that nut, just on the washer. You just get it good and tight and then check the fall away." WHAT?!

Funny, I'm sitting here looking at my '06 Dyna Service manual on page 2-65 under the steering head assembly and it states "tighten fork stem nut to 45-55 ft-lbs" and Muddyape says the new instructions say tighten to 70-80 ft-lbs.

Thanks, but I'll do the work myself.

It's interesting the new instructions have you torque the nut almost twice as tight.
