Transversely, you get the most actual air that way. A bike with a bad shield/fairing/whatever combination becomes a rolling abomination and I respect folks trying to dial in something that works well for them. At 61, I've been riding around 45 years and been through most of the cycles (pun intended) from Sporty with no shield, crotch rocket, touring bikes, whatever. From a bad accident in '74, my knees are less and less interested in assisting me in holding up a heavy bike, and my back thinks 100 miles is a long ride. That keeps my Valkyrie parked a lot, my Fat Bob the main ride, and my CBR1000F long sold. We all come from different places, and the various stops along the way are interesting if all goes well.

I agree that some bikes are worse than others where it comes to buffeting. I mentioned that my other bike is a KTM 1190 Adventure R, which is a big dual-sport bike similar to a BMW GS 1200. They are very tall. In fact, anyone under 6' tall is going to struggle getting a leg over and a foot down. And they are top-heavy, once they start to tip a bit a guy is hard-pressed to keep them upright.

All of this has relatively little to do with the buffeting issue. I found that this particular bike did have some buffeting, but it wasn't terrible so I was content to live with it. When I changed the mirrors, however, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the reduction of buffeting and passed that along.

I'm guessing we might be of similar vintage. I had ridden dual-sport bikes for many years and when I got the Fat Bob had originally planned to flip it, had literally gotten a deal I could not refuse, but after riding it several times decided I wanted to keep it. It is so very pleasant and easy to ride compared to the 1190R. I'm eager to get the new fairing installed and get it out on the road, this has been a long, rough winter here in NW Montana!

Love this color, What is it? Doesn't look like a stock Harley color.
