What tools do you carry?

RE: What tools do you carry?
I ride a 30 year old Shovelhead and carry a bag full of tools, just about every sae tool known to man, and 1 metric (10mm) damn new batteries! I also cary extra plugs, zip ties, duct tape, extra smokes in zip lock, quart of oil, flashlight, cell phone, pint of Jack Daniels, clean rags, did I mention Pint of Jack?, and other odds and ends. So far in the last 3 years, all I have ever needed was the set of plugs, (and the Jack). Even then the plugs weren't the problem, the wires came off my voltage regulator and the battery went dead. Just used the kick start and rode home with the lights off to recharge the battery. My bike has hard bags and 1 is for the bike and the other is for me. When I take a road trip, over 500 miles, I have a tour pak that I mount too. I know that someday I will get a flat tire and I have spoke wheels with tubes (PITA), but for those of you with tubeless tires, I would suggest a plug kit. Some passerby will have a 12 volt compressor and you can get home. But for the really bad days, I made sure that my brother has a key to the lock on my bike trailer and I have his number on speed dial. I know that that sounds like a lot of stuff to pack, but I have been riding for over 35 years and have ALWAYS rode her home. I may look into some alloy wheels and tubeless tires, but I just can't give up the look of the spokes. I am old, and I like old school.

RE: What tools do you carry?
I've got a nylon bag that I keep in a saddlebag (should fit in a tool bag)that's about 5x7x3, and it's unreal what I can keep in there. First,I have a mini tool kit in a plastic case (GearWrench) that I found at Lowe's that's a ratchet type tool with flat, phillips, torx, hex, and standard sockets up to 9/16. It was about 20 bucks, and I use it all the time for light stuff. Also in the bag are a tire plugging kit, a pair of mini vice grips, some zip ties, and a little duct tape. I can deal with a lot of unexpected junk out in the middle of nowhere where I like to ride (and where cell service is bad).

Well, since I do not have a tool bag ,everything goes inthe saddle bags. For daily commutes, I only carry a leatherman, flashlight and a tire pressure guage. Probably useless, but it's a habit. For rides out of town, I carry a sh^&load of stuff:
1 phillips and 2 common screwdrivers (1 large, 1 small)
two crescent wrenches (large, small)
vice grips
slip-joint pliers
snap-ring pliers (not sure why I carry these)
3/8 ratchet
6" 3/8 extension
3" 3/8 extension
1/4 ratchet
3" 1/4 extension
complete set 3/8 drive sockets on a "stick"
#27 torx bit
allen wrench set
7/16, 3/8, 1/2, 9/16 combo wrenches and a double (1/2 and 9/16 together) box end wrench.
spark plug socket
duct tape
rags
extra clutch pivot pin snap ring
extra plugs
oil drain/tranny o-ring
All this gets wrapped in an old military t-shirt of mine and bungee cord wrapped. Doesn't even rattle.
Crap, that's a lot I know. The ironic thing is I never need the tools, my buddies and their metrics always need something. Not for anything major, but they always ask "do you have a knife", or "do you have a set of needle nose...?" Funny.

RE: What tools do you carry?
I have the Craftsman cycle tool set. It was on sale for I think $50 when I got it and it has more than enough tools in it than I hope to ever need. We were riding with a guy on a Big Dog and had what we needed to pull his rocker covers and adjust his push rods on the side of the road. That was definately a first for me, and I hope my last
