ORIGINAL: powdercoater
By the way, to set the record straight for anyone reading this... the "powdercoater" was not me!
ORIGINAL: Muddyape
I talked to him (powdercoater)today after looking at the upper tree which isFUBAR!!!!!!! Two coats and full of waves because he said it "gassed off" Said he would try it again but no gaurantee's. I dont need to hear this......really starting to regret even getting involved with this project. I told him about particulates in the a/c and horn covers and he told me "that's the nature of powder" So basically I just paid a guy to powdercoat all the things on my bike that either just dont get it? or am I being too picky? All I want is it right and now dont think its gonna be an option.....so who do I pay now to;
1) Strip upper/lower tree's and recoat
2) Strip a/c and horn covers and recoat (gonna wrinkle coat them if gonna do it second time)
He wasnt there when I picked up the stuff but he said he was gonna call me today to talk about the upper tree "gassing off". All that tells me is that he was going to pass it as done and only fix if I bitched...how could I not? I would never put that on a brand new bike. I mean I gave him a $100 S&S a/c cover to coat and he couldnt get it smooth. Lost a little faith in the stuff and all faith in him. Not even going to go back to get it fixed for free...what's that say. Maybe he cant get it right...so who can? Chime up....i'll ship.

I am the Quality manager for a place that has the biggest powdercoating system in northern Illinois and have powder coated lots of my bike parts. I might be able to shed some light on this. The popping he is talking about is what happens when the surface isnt preped correctly before powder is applied.I dont know how your guy does it but we beadblast and send the part through a two stage rince, then a 200 degree dry oven before it is sprayed with powder.We have had the "popping" problem on our product and every time it has been either oil or some other type of liquid that contaminates the surface. If you are looking to have it repowdered I suggest you have the parts cleaned thouroughly, beadblasted if possible. Its the only way to get a recoat to come out good.
