RE: Changing handgrips
Thanks to all for the replies, will be giving it a go tommorow, of course on my mates fatboy first so my attempt will be a lot easier, it's his turn anyway as we did my pipes first so he could learn!. It's great learning to do all this stuff yourself, we are both ex-Navy aircraft technicians so we have a bit of nouse between us, and besides our dealer/service deptis 2 hrs north.
Thanks again.

Just installed them last week. As everyone said, patience is the key. Don't forget to use a washer or cardboard in the brake lever - prevents damage to the brake light switch. For dealing with the brass ferrules, a needle nose came in handy, and a light colored towel on the ground right under where you are working - if dropped, will not roll or bounce. and makes them easy to find.
Took under 30min. Just take your time.
Also a write up in the DYI section https://www.hdforums.com/m_69241/tm.htm

Wedge a piece of cardboard behind the brake lever. Pull the lever in a little bit and you'll see a gap on the back side of the lever. Basically the cardboard will keep the lever from going all the way back into the resting position (and keep the lever away from the brake light switch)
Hope that makes sense in writing.....It will when you see it in person.
Cheers,
J
