Need new bars for my 2007 FXDC..Help!!
Hey guys,
I have been trying to figure out what kind of new bars I need for my 2007 FXDC!
I tried using the MOCO “Handlebar Measurements” popup page and am totally confused. Why don’t they put the name of the bars on the chart like “mini ape” or “Buckhorn”?
Anyways, after measuring the stock bars on my bike I think they are part number 55909-04 is that correct? I just want to know as a control reference.
The reason I do not like the stock bars is they are way to low and just not wide enough! I am 6’4 with a big upper body and long arms. My wish after sitting on my bike with a tape measure would be bars about 6-8” higher and about 2-4” wider. When I ride, my hands are just at the end of the controls on the current bars and are always slipping off.
After doing a search here I think the mini apes might be what I am looking for does anyone have the part number for the HD chrome mini apes so I can refer to the chart and see if that is high and wide enough for me?
What would you guys recommend? I have no idea how to change the bars but I do have a service manual, tools and lots of time! Any advice, pics and a list of extra parts needed would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Eric

I would recommend you head to your local dealer and sit on a Streetbob. That will give you a chance to try out the mini apes.
The parts guys should be more than happy to help you pick the right bars for you. They will be able to reference your part # for your bars and with all their new bikes you can try different bars as opposed to guessing you may want the bar "X" wider and taller.
changing bars is easy...
However... re-wiring is tedious(may not have to from what I read) and recabling may be in order depending on the bars you choose.

Salty, I agree with rounder, try as many bars out as you can. Even if you pick a style, it's important to try the rise and pullback if you can to see what is comfortable.
I am the same height as you and also have broad shoulders. The style I wanted was drag bars or t-bars. And, if I were just picking out of a catalog, I would have chosen a street slammer style bar with a 6" rise, purely for how they would look on my bike. However, when I went to the dealer and tried several out, I found I needed the ones with 8" integrated risers. They don't come up a full 8 inches as some of that is pullback where the risers are angled. But the bars I chose put my arms and hands exactly where I wanted them. My wrists are straighter than with the stock bars and are out to the side a little more and my arms are a little higher. I'll put a few pix below. I will warn you though, if you go with this style and you do have wide shoulders, you will probably need to replace the mirrors as well. When I changed bars, the stock mirrors gave me a nice view of my shoulders and that was it. I could no longer see comfortably behind me. So, I had to change to some Kuryakyn mirrors that gave me very good visibility.

the best...(they seem to be just like the Fatboy bars other than the 1" vs 1.25" dia.).
Nice for me... they are 50 bucks and I won't need to change any cables or wires.

RE: Need new bars for my 2007 FXDC..Help!!
I'm looking for a new set as well for my '07. Currently have the stock buckhorns on 4.5" pullback risers and really would like to have another 1" or 2" of pullback and 1" of rise. I'm hoping to find a set of bars with integrated risers, vice having to go to a longer set of separate risers.
The search is on!!!

I bought my fatty 13" apes off Ebay and got a good price for the bars and all thestainless steel shieldedcables as well as the brake line. Your stock cableswon't wont be long enuff. I also had to cut my wiring and splice an 8" section in but then I routed the wires thru my bars and WOW what a difference to not have all that junk running up the outside of the bars. I paid around $280.00 for the whole set on Ebay and there are probably deals like that everyday there from certain cycle shops.
The 13" bars would be the perfect hieght for you and have your arms pretty much level with your shoulders. I love the feel and the look of it on my Street bob and your bike would just as nice with them.
