Default 2 Different HD Detachable Saddlebags??

So I've come to realize that it seems that the original HD dedtachable saddlebags #90460-06 seem to have been phased out and are being replaced by #90181-08.

Does anyone know anything about the differences between the two models beyond the looks of them?

Here's a pic of the older model, 90460-06 (credit AZ Rider):

The newer one, 90181-08 is below:

I was dreaming about buying a set of theses and had the dealer print out the instruction pages.
As it turns out, for those of us who weren't aware, there is an additional bracket required besides the two docking points. There is a long arm that is screwed to the lower back of the bag and mounts somewhere near the passenger pegs. The instructions did not show where or what it mounts to and the service guy said that he had installed some but couldn't remember the exact detail of it.
I though it would be nice to have those bags because of the clean look and easy detach. Now I have concerns. Does anyone know where this 'arm' attaches and what it looks like when the bags are off? Untill I find out, I'm starting to lean toward the aftermarkets with easybrackets. Are there any disadvantages with those?

Easy Brackets are the only way to go. You can get great bags at about half the HD price from www.leatherneckjim.com
I have a set on my Dyna - no affiliation, just a satisfied customer - hand made in the USA. Jim will give you a deal on the brackets.

+1 here I don't have the brackets but I do have throw over bags that require the saddlebag supports.
For solo rides I would like to take the bags off but the support is just butt ugly out there all alone. I doubt any support looks all that good without the bags to hide it.
And Harley just charges too much for their bags IMHO.

Does anyone know what that 'arm' actually attaches to?
Is it an additional part or is it already on the bike? How noticable is it when the bags are off?

Two of the mounting grommetts are on the fender strut. The third is on a brace that attaches on the upper shock bolt.

The brace is hidden inside of the rear shock and doesn't show. When the bags are off, all that shows is the two spacers and grommetts on the fenser strut - and the spacers are chrome.

The brace bar that connects on the grommett behind the shock is bolted to the back of the saddle bag and comes off with the bag.

The bags are hard plastic lined inside and keep their shape well.
