using it for shrink tubing for wiring
what do you guys use let me know i would like to buy one but would like to get a good one for a fair price
thanks
I use a Scripto utility lighter, they have two types, one has a flame like a blow torch (windresistant)and the other has a soft flame (the original) which works better because the flame wraps around the sleeving and shrinks all sides at the same time. Works better then any heat gun.

I had to do some wiring work on my bike last year and I don't have any power in my shed so I bought a gas powered soldering iron, cost £20 in an electrical components place, well it has been the most useful tool I have bought in years!,soldering, shrinking, heating seized bolts, moulding plastics,I have used it loads.
Being small (about the size of a cigar) and not having any trailing wires makes it much nicer to use andit can used so precisely that you have no worries about setting anything on fire, refills from a standard lighter refil can.

hair dryer or lighter but remember to keep the flame off the tubing or it will burn and harden it

JRK5892 Date 1/12/2008 9:08:19 PM harbor freight... that is what my company uses it is 2 stages and works great! they last about 6 month but we are hard on them... strongly recomended!

I do wiring on bikes and I agree. They do not last if you use them lots like me but that is about 25 H.F. Units to 1 Snap-On. One guy borrowes your Snap-on & does not bring it bach compaired to 1 $10 unit. If you make a living and you use em' lots for around 12 years, you are at your break even point. Snap-On is a better unit and you can proudly show it. Your call.

It makes no sense to go cheap on tools. Go to Home Depot or order online a tool like this:

Dual temp, many uses around the house/shop. Heavy duty. Amazon $62 free shipping. LINK
