I just placed the order! Spokes and rim. Thanks for the help. I also went over the proceedure in the service manual. Looks a little confusing, but doable. Any problems getting the tire off? By the way, was your stock front tire a 100/90? Is the 21 the same width?

As far as getting the old tire off, I used the hub from a bent wheel assembly I bought. Once I got all the parts in, I could hardly wait and waste time with things like having the tire removedfrom the bent rim. Thats what they make Dremel tools and cut-off disks for. I just cut the old spokes. That tire is still on the rim.

The new rim is 21" x 2.15". The tire is a MH90-21. A little narrower than the one I took off and a little less tire between the rim and the ground.

I'm wondering if one could purchase a stock21" wide glide front wheel
andit would fitright up? I guess it would depend on the axle size, no?
Any idea on the price comparison?
Ray.

You can buy a Sportster wheel but you will need to use different spacers on the axle and for the caliper mounting. If it has 3/4 bearings, they will also need to be replaced.

Its not the same. The hub on the stock Wide Glide 21" wheel is too wide for the front end on our mid-glides. I don't know of anyone who makes a 21" wheel which will fit our front ends with the 1" axle.

So I'll need to do like you.
If I use my own hub, I need the spokes, the 21" wheel and the rubber to match.
What if I found a used 21" wheel & tire off of a WG. Could I use the spokes and wheel with my hub??
I'm itchin' to do this.

If you are pretty sure you want to do this and can live with chrome spokes, you might want to go ahead and get them. J & P and has a few sets left. After that, I am not sure how available they will be at a reasonable price. I paid $22.99 because they are a closeout item. If you wait, you may end up paying Buchanan $150.00 for a workable set. They certainly will be of higher quality than what I used.

Got a chance to road test it this afternoon. Put about 50 miles on the new wheel/tire and got up to about 70 mph. I couldn't tell any difference between the fat 19" and the skinny 21".
I haven't hit any grooves or a grated bridge yet, but so far - so good.
