Very cool bike for a project, nice color.
Maybe paint the oil tank to match. We'll help you out with suggestions.

Hey thanks and I'm sure you all will!! That's how my bobstah ended up the way it did - couldn't have done it with out all the support, help, and suggestions. You guys are the best at spending my money, well, the first wife was pretty good at it too!

Hmmm, good idea on the oil tank, also thought about chrome - this one doesn't scream to go to the dark side like the bobstah did!

Nice, eventually I'll be looking for a Sporty or Bonneville to start over on.Two of my all time favorites and basically what I think a Motorcycle should look like.If it were me I'd take the Sporty in a more non traditional direction. Those 1200s are real hot rods I'd be looking to either go old school cafe racer or street tracker with full XR750 style plastic and Supertrapp high pipes.....If I ever get finished with my Bob.

I got a wicked deal on a 2002 Sporty XL1200S

*************************************

Chip, you're gonna have a blast on that one.

And I looked at the dealer website.

You got it for less than the asking price??

Whatta deal.

I bought a new SportSter Sport in 95.
First year they came out.
Mine was Black and Silver.

Keep an eye on the rear tire tread if it has the stock type tire.
My 96 1200S came with the road race soft compound,
and they do wear quickly. Grip is great.

Have fun, and may the sun shine soon.

Trailer it up behind that RoadSter and pull it on down here.
75F today. Next week supposed to be in the eighties.

Way to go Chip! Did you pick her up at Monadnock?
Thanks guys -

No jake - found it at Manchester HD - and when I went back with the cash yesterday I ran into the owner while there - turns out he was a student of mine back in the 70's - god, I must be getting ancient, 'cuz he looked like, well, a whole lot older!
The last time I was in Mancheste HD, they had a ton of bikes. Congrats on your new toy!

Yup - Dealer knocked another $700 off their asking price of $4995. Checked on Kelly Blue Book and they sold it for trade-in value, likely what they gave the guy when he bought an '08 Road King. Around here that's what restored late 60's or early 70's Sportsters are going for, or mid/late 90's 1200 and early 2000's 883s sportys in decent shape with tons of miles. No way I could say no. The only one I've seen on eBay for awhile just sold for $6599 earlier today with 10k miles, Thunderheader pipes and some engine mods.

80's??? - sheeet, we just got another 6" of snow last night and still another 5" to come tomorrow night! Been friggin' shoveling all day and still not done and have to start all over again Wed. WTF?

OK, trailer (or van) next on the list! But the roadstah is all tucked in for the winter (no heater or snow tires!). Maybe this IS my year for a southern loop. Only been in the Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth areas. And that only briefly about 15 years ago. So there's a lot more to see! Back in summer of '69 I did my obligatory cross country jaunt in a Dodge van with my Triumph sitting in back. Nice little adventure, but a bit of a blur - LOL!

Why am I not surprised you had a 1200S? Aware of the tire issue but forgot to check what's on it now when I was over Sunday - they're storing it for free until I can get it over here even if it's not until Spring - ain't no trailer making it down my road for a while. And the garage is a bit, um, well, full to say the least!

Am told there's a mud package for me at the PO, but they closed at noon today so I missed it. Should be able to get up there Wed.

Enjoy the New Year!

Jeez, look at all the closet Sportys coming out! Thought long and hard about a 1200 Custom, just too much money and not a real fan of the larger tank style.

Nice Frame Skip. Yeah, I figured that out - right color too!

Think I'll just keep mine fairly stock (yeah, who am I kidding? LOL) for a while as I plan it out. Just not real anxious to tear it apart yet until I see what she's all about.

Be well Skip, and have a happy new year.
