Default Rear shocks for 06 Dynas

I have an '06 FXDI and of course, the rear shocks pretty much suck. I would like to replace them with something better but reasonably priced, like Progressive 412's. However, Progressive's tech line says they're not sure the models that fit Dynas through '05, will also fit the '06's. The lowering shocks in the MoCo catalog are different for the '06's than for the Dynas through '05. Eye-to-eye distance seems to be the same between '06 and earlier. So I assume there is something different about the shock mounts or layout of the new frame? Anyone know what's changed for '06 that would make previous shocks not fit?

I wanted to lower my 06 FXDWGI so I had the shocks shortened. It lowered my bike too much for me and was too much of a compromise in the handling. I installed an old set of HD lowering shocks from my 97 (the ones made by Fox Racing) and they worked fine though they were the brushed aluminum version of the shock. Next, I bought a used chromed version of the same shock on eBay and I am very happy with the results. Handling is maintained, bike is lowered, and they look awesome. This a long winded way of saying that shocks that worked on my 97 bolt right on to the 06 Dyna frame. The bolt hole diameters are identical when I compared my stock shocks with the older ones. I suspect the Progressives will work but I would want to get that confirmed before I laid down the cold hard cash.

Thanks, Steve. Just eyeballing my 06 Dyna shocks against ones taken off my Sportster, they appear the same mount diameter, etc. - maybe the change was in spring rates or something. I just couldn't get Works, Progressive or anyone to say they had something to fit, and MoCo is silent on whatever the change might be.

I don't know, but have good luck with Progressive shocks and fork kits in my sportbikes. I was thinking of getting a fork kit and fork oil change, along with rear shocks, at Sturgis - where Progressive mans a booth and offers some deals.

Before buying anything for the front forks, wait until Race Tech has a kit. That and some 20wt oil will make your WG handle like a sportster.
