Kuryakyn fwd controls won't stay tight
i just installed the Kuryakyn forward controls (9063)andinstalled the kury pegs with heal rest. when i put any weight on the heel pegs the bracket turns a bit. i tightend the screw down as tight as i can get it and it still seems to turn.i'm afraid that if i go any further it may break. has anyone else had this problem? i guess if i cant get it figured out i could tack a weld to it and the problem would go away but that would also ruin my chrome. i would be interested if its just me or if its a common problem.\\\

thanks for your replies. the problem is where the round footpeg bar meets the plate that is bolted onto the frame. the problem is not that the screw comes loose, it is because i cant get it tight enough to keep the two chromed pieces from turning...it would have been simple if there had been a little peg or something that would fit into a groove in the plate or something...i can think of a couple ways to fix it bit they involve a little weld and i would like to rule out any simple fixes before i go that route.

First, make sure you have the peg mounts on the correct sides. The right side should be the one that uses the lefthand/reverse threaded bolt. Also be sure to use loctite and let it set.
Now, with that said, you still may have some issues because I did. I actually ended up tightening one side on mine until I did break the bolt off. And, believe me, lefthand fine threaded bolts with that kind of head on them are not easy to come by at the hardware store. I ended up having to order a new peg mount and bolt from Kuryakyn but I was able to retap my old peg mount to a righthand thread and get a regular bolt until the new ones came from Kury.
I think putting a lot of weight/pressure on the stirrups while riding helps to loosen them up over time. A couple of weeks ago, I dumped the stirrup pegs and put on some Kury Widow pegs instead. So far, so good.

yep, i got em on right...i am afraid of breaking it off too..i dont want to give up on my pegs..i really like them...its sad that Kury doesnt see that problem and fix it.i dont think the harley forwards have that problem. maybe should have bought them instead..if i can get it i will just tack it. did you call kury and ask/tell them of the problem? what did they say?

If I understand you correctly it's a butt fit. They tend to be slippery little bastards. Several options here. Use a star lock washer between the two, or apply valve grinding compound on the peg, install bolt to pilot it and basically work it back and forth to either wear the chrome off that you won't see anyway, or at least roughen it up some. This alone may do it but apply #680 loctite where the parts mate and tighten. Blue loctite on attaching hardware.I'm positive one of these methods will lock it up to the point where Bruce Lee will be needed to move it. Worst case would be to back drill from the plate side into the peg and use a roll pin for positive retention. I doubt you will need to go to that extreme.

ron, the star lockwasher might besimple thing to try...good idea...i thought about roughing up the finish too...kind of lap it...but that seemed like one of those things that i would do that would just make a mess..i'm good at that...it jsut seems liket they would have caught that when they engineered it. will have to look and see if i can get a lock washer that will work and look acceptable..thanks

The hardware is tapered, so if you were to try to use a lock washer of some kind between the bolt and the plate or the plate and the mount, it would be ugly. Then again, a weld ain't gonna be pretty either. Take the peg mounts off, puta generous amount ofblue loctite on the bolts and reassemble and let them sit long enough for the loctite to set - about 24 hours would be good. Then install your pegs. As long as you have the righthand thread on the left side of the bike and the lefthand thread on the right side, it should all be good. When installed correctly, they are designed such that any weight or force on the peg mounts is actually tightening the bolts because of the way they are threaded vs. the direction of the force you are applying.
I only had trouble with the right side but I admit I never waited long enough for loctite to set before putting my footpegs on and that probably worked it loose to begin with without me even knowing it. Every now and then, I would notice the right side peg mount a little loose and I'd just tighten on it when I got back home. I never added anymore loctite, however, and one day I went to tighten it and with barely any force at all, the head of the bolt broke right off in my hand. Good thing I wasn't trying to stand up on the pegs while riding I guess. Anyway, yes I told Kuryakyn about it when I called to order the new hardware. But they didn't have much to say about it other than what I just told you above.

2007 FXD you make an interesting point that i didnt think of...thats not much of a bolt to hold my petite 300 lbs. guess i will refrain from putting too much weight on it..i guess i'll just have to wait and see how much of a problem it is. i dont think it would be any problem if not for the heel pegs...but i want to use them.. will save a bunch of wear and tear on my legs i think. always something...i dont seem to have much luck when i go with something other than harley parts....i will make these work one way or the other..thanks\\
