Default turn signal relocation

Hello all,
This is my first time posting on one of these so I hope I get it right. I just got my new Street Bob on 12/21 and am loving every minute of it! I want to relocate my front turn signals down to the forks. Harley has a fairly inexpensive kit. Is this going to be a pain to do?I come from a sportbike back ground (hence my screen name) so I'm not used to working on a bike, just beating on it. I'm used to working on cars so I figure bikes can't be that bad, right? I really want to do my own wrenching so I am looking forward to my first project with this bike. If anyone has any tips for me I would appreciate it.

Default RE: turn signal relocation

Hi Convert!

I've done this to my superglide custom -06. Its worth the effort. Much better looking bike afterwards.
Its a quite simple operation, altough som work has to be done.

From memory:
- take seat off.
- move tank back.
- open up plastic cover in frame (located in frame at the front of tank) where the connectors for the turn signal is located.
- split connectors.
- (Here comes the only tricky part) pull the wires out of the connector (I spent 2 hours on this. A proper tool, can be bought, is gold worth here).
- detach turn signals from bar.
- pull turn signals and wire off bike.
- Loosen screws in lower fork bracket.
- Attach HD extension kit for turn signals in steering bracket.
- reverse with steps above.

Ok, this was rough and from memory. The bike will anyway be better looking afterwards and yes. You can do it yourself.

Moving the signals is not a complicated project. They usually screw into a bracket attached to the threaded stem on the rear view mirrors. It is a matter of unscrewing the mirror brackets, screwing them into the outer fork relocation bracket and then fastening two blind screws that hold the relocation bracket together. At least it was that simple on my '04 model. The extended length acorn nuts from the late model E-glide mirrors work great to remount the mirrors and get them tightened down.

That's using the kit for the Wide Glide, part number is 68952-98. The wiring can be cut, but that's a personal preference. I do see that the brackets for the '06 are different, but they might look a little better, it's your call.

Welcome to the Forums!

Convert,

Piece of cake. You do not need to remove fuel tank, just remove for and aft mounts to raise aft end of tank up and slide back to gain access to wire harness.Hardest part of the job is wrestling with wire harness and connectors.
