Back when I rode with the "Black Sheep", a group of black bobjob Triumphs, half of us had tried straight piping our bikes, and virtually all of us wound up putting at least a shorty back on there: the bikes mileage and power just tanked. We didn't have the exhaust inserts invented yet, so were at the mercy of loss.
I'm doubting that the inserts used with straights equal backpressure though, since there is no pipe resonant rebound to tune with the exhaust pulse. It has to be a halfway measure at best, IMO.

.
.
I am building something that no one else has done.

.........gaudy

...........deadly

......heavy metal

skinning a tank with my favorite precious metal.

spread it out
and beat it out.

.
.
first off I need a fixture to position the victim.

picked up some old stock from the pile out back
and built the two pieces shown here below.
.
.

.

...Click on any of these pix to view the full size image...
.
.

.

.
.
above, the wooden piece locates my project up off the table.
.
the ladder is a simple piece to elevate when necessary.

about a foot of two inch channel and some half inch square stock..............
.
.

.
.
below, without the ladder,
tank is positioned as it rides on my 006 SuperGlide.
.
.

.
.
.................or, it can be raised a little.............
.
.

.
.
.................or, it can be raised way up high.......
.
.

.
.
.........to be continued,
if there is any interest in seeing a tank skinning..........
.
.

Mud, now why would you think your post would keep us coming back? Of course we want to see.

Can I take a guess? Aluminum or diamond plate? A diamond-plated tank would look pretty Mad Max.

Mud ... can't wait to see the skinned tank ... I always liked the brick tins (alter ego) ....

Your motor looks clean as usual ... can you give a(nother) run down or link to a thread detailing your setup ...

I know you are concealing 121 cubes under that mild mannered exterior ... (no Screamin' Eagle or S&S or Jims logo on the heads ... what's up with that ...? LoL) ....

Enquiring minds want to know ....

Respects,
'Chop
