' ION sensing explained... HERE'
HA-HA-HA.......after reading that 'ION' crap!
And it is no more than that...... crap.
This mysterious ION sensing is known only to a very few of the elite mechanics of the world.....so beware.
This is secret mumbo-jumbo whose source cannot be shared with the world (sorry guys).....so what is the common man to do?
Answer:
Just stick a couple of NGK plugs in it and ride off. Forget the mystery crap. The tip of the plug (note.....a Harley Plug, that is) emits signals of impending knock, or a sensor picks up the tip vibrations of impending doom perhaps from this special Harley-D spark plug? Please, give me a break!....more Ha-Ha-Ha

No, I do not need to understand anything about fuel injection Mud, because I hope to never have it on anything I ride.
I am a carb only type of guy.
The electronics and the fuel injection is just fine when it works.....but when it don't, most riders will find themselves just sitting in the dealers waiting room....waiting.
All this talk about changing spark plugs, checking sensors, checking for loose wire connections is a waste of time for the most part. Gonna just have to take it to the dealer. Heck, if the bike does not have but a couple thousand miles on it, the dang thing's under warranty, so why waste time trying to figure out electronics and FI? It's like this, Everybody has a suggestion but no one has an answer for the poor guy. Ha-Ha-Ha.........pg

Unfortunately PC **** requires that everything, soon even lawnmowers, are ECU driven and electronics is getting more and more widespread (and complicated).
Soon we'll get a blue screen on our bikes too. [:'(]
But we have just to cope with it.
I'd buy a carb today, but unfortunately doing so would make the bike illegal here in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Italy.

Well, I guess I'll have to say guess again.
Guess I worded that wrong.
Shoulda never said you needed anything.
You are absolutely right.
With the carbed machines, ion sensing is a red herring.
Myownself, I do like the ion sensing
thatautomatically retards thespark
when detonation is detected (via ion sensing).
Detonation can occur 200 miles down the road
when the availablefuel quality is downgraded at the pump,
regardless - carb tune or FI tune.

RE: Engine Hesitation and Miss
Hey 99 - you all have 99 octane over there??
If you say yes, I'm considering moving,
and bumping up from 11:1 compression
to 12 or 12 and a half.
Like the good old daze. 12-13:1

98-100 octane gas is readily available.
You wouldn't like the price of gas around here, though...
We are 1.3€/liter for standard, and 1.5-1.6€/liter for premium.
I put premium only in my Lancer Evo.
I keep my bike as it is. If I wanted a crotch rocket, I'd have bought one. I like the relaxed "who gives a f.ck" attitude of my dyna.
95 Hp are more than enough to pull out of trouble if need arises, and 130 N/m of torque give you all the smoothness you need.
Low compression is a good thing: it makes the engine last much longer, even if it reduces mileage, I'll grant you that.
