RE: Sportster to Dyna?
I started out after 20 somethings years with a new 04 Black sporty 1200 Custom. Man what a blast . She could hold her own against most all HDs. Around town nothing beats a 1200 sporty.
Yet on the highway she just lacked a little something.
I went to a 07 FXDWG [ black ] . God Damn, what a bigger thrill. It is easyer to ride , will not lean over as far, but easyer to lean, the big 96 x6 is a huge diff. [ after you go stage I] out of the box it sucks.
While I would jump on a 1200 sporty again. There is nothing like the FXDWG.

I was just wondering if any of you Dyna owners are previous Sportster owners,
and if so, are you happy you made the switch to your Dyna?
I've been thinking of getting an Evo-poweredDyna,
since I'm not hearing any great stuff about the twin cams,
and will most likely keep my 1200R Sportster.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

but, it is a very nice engine.
You cain't hardly hurt em.
But you can do just about anything you want up to about 120 cubic inchs.
And probably about 130-40 streetable tq/hp.
But, you have neglected to tell us what kinda rider you are.
The SportSter is a fine machine.
I bought my first one in 1965.
Had a few since then.
I'd like to have one now,
as a second machine.
Nothin wrong with the Evos,
that motor is very well designed as well.

RE: Sportster to Dyna?
I bought my 07 Street Bob at the end of July,my first big twin. I still have my 1997 sportster and will never get rid of it,once I got on the Dyna I felt like I could do some serious distance riding, fit me really well. The sportster will always hold a special place in my heart.......

RE: Sportster to Dyna?
Thankfully, I was able to keep the 1200 when I bought my 06 Wide glide. No doubt the WG is better on the highway, and more comfortable to ride. My 06 has the 6 speed tranny, but still has the 88 twin cam, vise the 96. I have a buddy with a 96 incher in a SG. its a little faster, but no big deal. I'll keep this WG 'till the engine goes, then rebuild it bigger and better. Formy size (6'0", 200 lbs) and rideing style, the WG is the best fit, best ride, and best looking.
I love Sportsters though. Unfortunately, I think the MoCo misrepresents them. The tag them as a starter bike. Then a guy/gal who is new to HD thinks its a smaller version of the BT. NOT You can add enough crap to any bike to get it to suit a purpose...but a Sportster is not a starter bike. Its a different style than the BT. A starter bike is a cheep used bike you dont mind dropping.... Sportstershave a smaller frame, and that sucks for highway riding compared to a BT, but they are built to race, straighten out corners, and run around town. As we get older though, at least for me, the more you slow down a bit and enjoy theride. That's why I like the WG best.
Anyhow, think about what kind of riding you do, and get the bike that matches it. Otherwise, you will never be happy.
