Once Winterized should you start periodically?

Default Once Winterized should you start periodically?

I put my Dyna LR to bed for the winter yesterday; changed oil and filter, tranny fliud, primary fluid, fogging oil in the cylinders, got my smart battery charger ready to go on. just waiting for my J&S jacks to get here and I plan on jacking it up for the winter. My question is should I periodically start the biike and run it to operating temps over the winter or leave it alone until spring? I'm in upstate NY and winter lasts until April here.

It loads it up when you start it, and you are really doing it more harm than good by starting it, as it does not have a chance to dispell the carbon build up. Best to keep it on a battery tender and put stabil in the tank and leave it alone. JMO.

Stabilize the gas! No need to run it at all..... I don't see any reason to change allthe oils.... Last year I just put stabilizer in the gas, filled it to the top then ran it a few miles and parked it!
Come spring it started right up no problems!

oh yea, I have added Stabil to my gas and topped of the tank......rode it home thought so theres room for expansion. Will be in a un-heated garage.

dunno about the carbon but if you can't get the bike hot enough to burn off the condensation in the motor, you oil will be milky/full of water. i live in n minnesota and we have a long winter also. i fill the tank w/ nonoxygenated fuel, plug in the battery tender and leave it until spring. no need to fog [whatever that is...] the cylinders or start the bike occasionally. i park it and leave it alone.

I read a article about winterizing in AIM and it recommended a blast of fogging oil in each cylinder to protect them. Found it at Pep Boys for $3 so I got it.

I usually ride mine when the Wx is 40 or above during the winter. I would never start the enginewithout taking it out for at least 15 miles. Does more harm than good. If you want to fog cyls, do it, but oil clings to surfaces in your engine and I've never seen any real advantage to fogging. Whatever your comfortable with is probably what you need to do.

If I were going to leave my bike sitting for 3,4,5 months I would definately fog the cylinders....also,if you start the engine before riding season begins,you need to re-fog..I ride all year long so winterizing my bike isnt an issue....I winterize my boat each year in Sept or Oct...never take it out till late May or early June...cranks right up every time....:&gt

If your bike is sitting in continous below freezing tempertures during the winter: fill the tank, shot of oil down theplug holes thenturn over the engine with plug caps off,bag the tips of the pipes, remove the battery,and leave it alone.

If temps are around freezing or slighlty abovestarttwice per month letting it warm up completely.

I've had bikes for 20 years and never had a problem.

P.S I've heard both good and bad about fuel stabilizer and never have used it.
