I just got my FXD and I have a question!
Hello all. I just bought a 2008 Vivid Black FXD and I love it! There is only one thing I don't like about it and I am hoping someone here has found the answer! I don't like the Sportster speedo. I also don't like the metric look of the dual speedo/tach. I would like to put some risers on and flip the speedo sorta like the Sportster Custom I think... Has anyone else fought this problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Can't say I've tried that, but think I may have seen a post a while ago about using the sportster custom guages on an FXD and it worked pretty well. Try using the Search function at the top. Can be a little tricky but give it a shot. Good Luck!

This question has been gone over time and again so do a search for it. Here is one of the threads:

I got a 04 Sportster Custom setup to try off of Ebay recently but I have seen no pics from someone who has actually done it. I recommend getting an assembly used because all new parts would get pricey. Now that it is getting cold out I'll be tearing it apart soon. From what I can tell so far the stock speedo looks like it will fit in the assembly (with some minor alteration) but I am sure it will take some wire alterations to the idiot lights. If there is a problem with clearance I figure I'll add some washers in to raise it a bit. I was going to just get some new risers to start with because stock felt too short and too far forward for me so hopefully this whole change will fix 2 things that have bugged me (the speedo and the risers). I have read from other people that they were able to go with 4in risers with out changing the stock cables and brake line.
Another tip- if you need chrome doo dads Ace Hardware has a large stock of washers, nuts, bolts ECT. They are not cheap but it helps when you want it to look good. Home Depot is only good for stainless steel stuff.
The whole tank change is great if you can find one but any major changes could lead to some warranty hassles from the stealer if you run into trouble since you have a brand new bike.

The only thing I'd worry about with the sporty gauge setup would be clearance issues with your tank. The sporty custom fuel cap and whatnot are all flush mount and with the FXD everything is stickin' right up there. Go to the dealer with a tape measure and a notepad and take some measurements to make sure before you buy anything. Your good deal on parts off of ebay will be an even better buy for the next guy if they don't fit. I hate buying stuff that doesn't work.
