Default '06 Super Glide - a few questions

I am relatively new here and looking topurchase my first Harley. I have determined that I want a SG. I rented a 2007 SG Custom a few weeks ago and it was perfect.

I have an opportunity to purchase an '06 SG, not the SG Custom. I have seen and ridden the bike. Other than a little vibration at idle, which I understand is normal, there appear to be no problems with it. The guy wants $10,800. It has 1800 miles, looks showroom new and is basically stock. And he has the title in hand. Here are my questions:
[ul][*]It appears to be a reallygood deal. Does anyone disagree?[*]Does HD offer/sell any type of warrantyfor a bike purchased from a private owner?[*]On the stock '07 SGC, are the handlebars different than the on the stock '06 SG? The handlebars on the '06 I am looking at appear to be narrower than the '07 SGC[/ul]
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

1. 10,800 on an 06 SG with low mileage is just under retail book value.
The 06's have the six speed trans but the 88 ci motor. The 07's came with the six speed and the 96 ci motor. Being that the msrp on an '08 SG is now 11,995, you might want to consider looking into a new one or at the very least, a used 07. Only issue I have with the 08's is lack of color choice this year.

2. If it's an 06, it's possible the owner may have some warranty left on it and you could inquire at the dealer he bought from about purchasing an extended warranty through them. If he hasn't modded it, then they will more than likely be happy to take your money.

3. The bars on either bike are differentwidth. The SG Custom has wider bars than the SG. Both are 1"diameter.

Hope this helped some.

I would make sure to hit up a couple of H-D dealers in the next few days and see how much you can get out of them before you go paying $10,800 for a used '06 SG. I like '06 SG's, just look below, but I would still go to the dealers and see what they are willing to do. Remember that a SG is kind of a stripper bike. You want some shiny stuff on it, you pay for it as you go. If I were you while I was looking around at the dealers SG's I would make sure to take a look at some of the Low Riders too. Everything comes with a Low Rider. You buy one of those and most all of the neat and shiny stuff comes with it.

Frankly, (don't get me wrong, love my 06SG) I would do some real checking on the 06. The first 13,400 had numerous problems.
Tranny being one of them. If no warranty, and second owner, I would be leary. Price seems a little high. I just turned 18,000 when I was in talking to the dealer. He said trade in on mine was $7140(I cried).
The FXDC is the best ride for the money (I'm hearing), and bet you can get a good deal with a 2 year warranty, 96cu engine, etc.
I would be talking to dealers on an 08.
And NO, you can't have my 06SG for $7140., but I would sell it to you for $14000.

Best to you.

Wow, I can't beleive how stupid I am. I just re-read the ad on this bike and it turns out that, in fact, it is a Super Glide Custom. I can't believe I overlooked that. NADA retail is $11,855. At that price, It might be worth it. I will contact the dealer he bought it from and see if there is still a factory warranty on it.

To all who replied so far, thank you VERY much for the info. It was extremely helpful.
