Default Popping & Backfiring

Got an 07 Dyna Low, 96" w/six-speed, Rush Slip-Ons (1.75 Baff), K & N Filter, Dr. Dyno tricked out O2 sensors, Harley Dealer remapped stock computer... Bike running great, gas mileage only so so, but thepopping and backfiring seems excessive when off throttle... heard complaint from others... anybody find any solutions? R/ Ed H. VaBch, Va

There's been a few other posts about this - seems to be mostly related to the lean running engine and the harley download maps can only get you so close to optimum operating parameters. My experience - well, not sure how much is related to the issue but it was driving me nuts hearing all that popping/backfiring and I had the dealer do the download after installing my Stage 1 intake, K&N filter, SERT and V&H pipes - after about 500 miles I decided to clean and recharge my K&N and that seemed to help a little bit. But the big change came after 1000 miles when I had the service done, cleaned/recharged the K&N again (I live on a dirty, dusty back road), and then had the bike dyno'ed. Much better now that it's dialed in with hardly any backfiring and no popping. The bobstah's exhaust note sounds much better now, too. Just my experience for what it's worth.

Just remember, they can backfire if they are running too rich, also. Get a good read on your plugs.I find less popping on mine if I gap the plugs at a full 0.045 in.
Hope that helps

Mine used to pop until I had it Dyno'd and dialed in. Sounds awesome now.

I have a question and a comment.
What is "Dr. Dyno tricked out o2 sensors"?
Put a Harley Race Tuner or a Powercommander 111 usb on your bike.
my 2 cents

Greg... google "Dr.Dyno" ... this guy runs a dyno second to none, and with the knowledge to boot... while buddy with an appointment was having his scoot twinked by him at Myrtle Beach Bike Week last spring, asked him for a quick twink for my new ride... he cut-out O2sensors withproper resisters in line, noticeable difference in high speed ride home... plan on catching him at the next rally he visits and just turn him loose on the bike...NOBODY can tune a bike like this guy... read about him in past issue's of Iron Horse mag. ..
