Default Thinking about taking the plunge

After a year with my first FXD, an 01, I'm getting the itch to upgrade. Spent a few bux on the typical stuff, grips, pegs, mirrors, battery cover..etc. Even went so far as put a Wideglide tank set-up on her. It's a great bike with only 14K miles but I'm getting the itch for a FXDB. The 6 speed, the 96 motor, the beefy forks, running a 180 in the back without having to spend an arm and a leg are all good reasons (to me!). Has anyone had the opportunity to ride both? I was wondering about ride and seat height. From the specs it looks like the Bob sits a little shorter. I'm 6 feet with a 33-34 inseam and I tested a low rider with mid controls and that didnt work for me.

Anyway I'm looking for some help and support from the forum to push me over the edge. The stealer is offering a decent trade in value (in his opinion) and they happen to have an FXDB with low miles on hand. Hell it's no fun unless your in debt right?

All you'd have to do is put on forward controls and you'd be set. I prefer mids but that's just me.

I can't tell you how fun it is not being in debt but I'm having a fine time being in it.

If the low didn't suit your tastes with the mids, then the bob probably isn't going to either. If you are over 6', you'll probably want highway pegs or forward controls. I'm 6'4" with standard forwards on my FXDC and am perfectly comfortable with about the same inseam as you.

I had the opportunity to test ride a Street Bob for about 2 hrs, earlier this year in the hills around the San Diego area. I liked everything about the bike but the mid controls. I'm 6 ft, 235 # and wish I could have stretched out. the seat height and the mini apes felt good. forward controls would make the Bob fit me.

I'm thinking I like mid's only because I haven't ridden anything else. The stealer wants $800 to do forward controls (sounds like a lot). Says it's a lot more labor on the newer bikes than the 05's and older. I'll have to ride one with forwards before I decide or else I could always raise the bike (longer shocks?). Does the bob come with shorter shocks or is the height reduction hidden somewhere else?

I'd start running from that dealer already. That's ridiculous for installing forwards and it's BS that it's harder to install them on a post-05 bike. It may be more technical working on the engine but installing forwards is not rocket science. Get the right kit and you can do it yourself.

I got an 07 Bob in March. It had the mid-controls when purchased but I added highway pegs and I am 6'1". This worked well forme, but itseemed that I needed onewhen my feet wereon the other. Had the stealer install HD forwards for $575.00. Don't know how I lived without them!

I have an 07 bob I am 5'9" tall
I had the fowards put on by dealer he charged me 550 more
to install at time of purchase.
I just added a le Pera sillouette seat very comfortable with foward controls
and the mini apes.

DO IT!!! I made the plunge about two months ago and moved up from an old Kawaski[sm=confused06.gif]to the 07 bob with forward controls I'm 5'9 and the forwards fit great. I never was without them so I can say how the mids would be but know for sure I love the forwards.
