SLIP-ONS AT THE END OF MY ROPE

RE: SLIP-ONS AT THE END OF MY ROPE
If you remove the fiberglass packing in your SE slip-ons, they will sound decent...significantly louder than with the packing, but not offensively loud. There is a thread on how to remove the baffles...it takes some force to get them out.
However, if I knewwhat I know now when I bought the '07 SE's,I would have bought the Rush slip-ons with the 1.75" or 2" baffles. I know the MoCo is on a politically correct quiet pipesoapbox these days, but they should be ashamed for putting the Screaming Eagle name on mufflers that are as quiet as the stock ones. I didn't want my bike to beannoyingly loud, but I DID want it to sound like a Harley, not a freakin' Gold Wing!

I have a slightly different question. With quiet baffles, do you ever need to change out the fiberglass shield (whatever that stuff is around it). Mine seems to be getting that higher pitch which makes me think somehow that the shielding has burnt out or something. I'd rather not take them off to find out, it was a pain in the a** to get them in.

another vote for V&H quiet baffles. The bike prob sounds louder to you than it really is ... mine sounds loud and harsh to me ... I got a mate to ride it past me and it sounds sweet ... low and rumbly ... not sure about US pipes but mine (europe) have a flap so all exhaust goes through the lower pipe at low speeds keeping the noise right down at idle speeds ... so i can idle past horses and coming home late without p'ing people off.

Someone posted about some replacement baffles you can get for the SE II's that make them even louder if you want but I can't remember what. I'm not planning to spend anymore money on slip-ons. If I can't find a trade, I'm going to spring for pipes eventually.
Another option, as someone else said, are Rush slip-ons. They are what I went to get when I bought mine but the dealer didn't have them in stock for my bike. They are louder still than the SE II's and have a nice rumble. I let them sell me on the SE II's because I'm an impatient a$$ and didn't want to wait for the Rushes to be ordered. I'm okay with the SE II's but I could stand a little louder. They are nothing like the SE's they sell today, however, as far as sound goes. I've yet to meet anyone that bought the current SE's that were satisfied with the volume.
