Default Bottomed out!!!

Ok, i got a quick question. Ive seen alot of questions about the settings on the rear shocks. The other day I hit a pot hole riding solo and bottomed out. Now im not a big guy only bout 185, is it normal for this to happen, how do i know what setting my shocks are on. Im currently the winning bidder on one of those shock tools on ebay. I just didnt think it was normal to bottom out on any setting on those shocks. Any input will be appreciated.

I don't know where they're set but if you hit hard enough they'll bottom out.

Hard to explain, but I'll try. At the bottom of each shock there is a round chrome 'skirt' that has holes all around it. This is where the shock adjuster will grab onto. You have to look under the chrome part to see the pre-load adjuster, to see what they're now set at. It's a small series of bumps and two indexing points on the shock itself. As you turn the shock tool it will(should) click. There are 5 settings, total IIRC. From the least pre loadto moreand more all the way till the firmest, thenit goes back toleast. Just make sure you have both sides set evenly.

The stock shocks are junk and anything you do now will only be a stop gap until you change them

I'd definitely check out some new shocks, as the stockers are pretty sad. I'd recommend the Progressives, have had them for years and they work great. I'm 200+ and never bottom out with the Progressive Suspension ones.

Dealer had mine set at two and hit bottom once. I changed it to three when I am riding alone and put it on five when I am packing the wife with some gear. Works fine now.
