Hi,Sammi.I'm definatley not an expert, but my 07/FXD,has a noise which seems to be coming from the primary drive area, which my dealer tells me is the "Compensator",I think it may be an auto tensioner(not Sure),But they can't seem to make it stop after 3 attempts,it's probably a figment of my imagination(like all the 6 speed issues)but the noise is still there.
Cheers,Graham.

Hi Sammi,
I just had my primary inner shaft bearings replaced at 10,700 mi on my 2006 fxdi. The sound is unmistakable. When I first started it and cold there was no noise, then after putting it in gear and even going around the block and coming to a stop there was no noise. Leave the engine running and put transmission in neutral and let the clutch out, you will hear grinding noise or rubbing noise. It gradually gets louder as you ride it more. I finally decided I had a problem when you could hear that noise while riding down the road.

Pretty much sounds like what mine does.

Off to dealer as soon as they can fit me in.

Did it take the dealer long to fix once they got the parts?

crpdstr already described it pretty well. I had no noticable noise when in gear but put it in neutral and let the clutch out and it was loud as hell. I had the misfortune of having my bike at the dealership when everyone else did in the middle of July. Took me three weeks to get it back and that was after calling the owner. Hope you have better luck.
