Default Dirty Pipes

I need some help, two days ago I was riding my bike home and I brushed my pants leg against the pipes and I got some of the fabric stuck to the pipes. I can not get it off with normal cleaning. I need help in getting it off. I have heard to use everyting from oven cleaner to 0004 steel wool. Hoping someone out there has found a way to clean pipes without scratching them.

What were you wearing - plastic pants? lol

Have you tried getting the pipes hot again and then try to clean it off (very carefully)?

4-OOOO steel wool, with mothers chrome polish on the steel wool. takes some work and time. Many report good results with oven cleaner. caution with it.

Thanks for the help. No not plastic pants, but I am a sports official, and I have to wear blue pants made from Rayon and other man-made fabrics and it melts real easy. Normally I wear jeans.

I use stuff called "GOO OFF" and it is found at any hardware store.
No need to even get the pipes hot. Just put it on a rag and wipe it off.
Alsosomeone told me once you could also use nail polish remover.
