Default 06 FXDBI Chaincase drain plug leaks

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong...I just bought this bike a month ago, and noticed that the chaincase drain leaks a bit after 20 or 30 min. of riding. I checked the nut and it's torqued to 35inlbs. I decided to drain the oil and put in a new o-ring...torqued everything to spec and still leaks around the drain. Bought a new drain plug with o-ring installed...noticed the bolt had some thread compound already applied...tightened everything up added the oil and after heating the bike up on the road, the drain still leaks...

Any tips or suggestions? I was used to my old 78 sporty leaking...lol

I'd take it to the dealer, but the guy I bought it from says it's been an issue with the bike since he did the 3000 mile service at the dealership...so I'd rather take care of this myself.

Try wraping the threads with teflon tape. We use it on f-16 bomb racks.... I'm sure a Harley wouldn't be a problem.

Better get her to the dealer before warranty runs out. My 06 bob had the same problem that required 2 visits to the dealer to fix. Each time the entire inner primary had to be pulled. This time they changed the shifter shaft two coming out of the tranny. Fingers crossed..so far- so good.
Put your hand on the back side of the primary and check for leakes above the drain plug. Chances are it's not the drain plug at all but someting that sits higher up

Thanks...I'm checking that now...it does look like fluid is running down the case behind the primary belt cover above the drain plug...

...does anyone know if factory warranty coverage applies to the second owner?

All the service people would tell me is that it's tricky getting the drain bolt to seal...lol...so it's leaking from the tranny not the chaincase...I better check fluid levels...Thanks!

I have the same problem. I had the dealer change out the mid controls for forward ones and everything was fine. I rode the bike to Daytona and got it good and warmed up on the way down... It's leaked primary oil ever since. I hadn't thought of the back side of the case leaking, though...

This has been a problem since I did the 3000 mile service and at which time I had the forward controls installed by the dealership.

I have an appointment for wed. I hope they get this fixed.

Thanks for the tips

I had the same problem and come to find out that it was the seal leaking. Have that checked.

Well I just picked thebike upfrom the service shop. It had an inner primary seal leak. Luckily it was all warranty work. While it was in the shop I also had the Dakota Digital Speedo/tach installed. They did it in an hour and a half...I figured with all the wiring it would have taken me most of a week...lol.

Thanks for the tips....
