I'm new to the foum. Have an oldSporty and I'm gonna buy a Street Bob.

Those of you that have a Denim Black Street Bob...
1) Do you think the paint is as strong and durable asordinary paint?
2) If you where going to buy a new Street Bob today - would you still have chosen Denim Black?

I also have a couple of question about the passenger pillion.
3) Any complains from the passenger?
4) Can it be taken off/put onin a minute or so?
5) Do I have to protect the fender in any way?

Any coments are most appreciated.

It does seem to scuff quite easy, i've caught my boot a couple of times on the rear fender (just gotta remeber to lift your foot higher). You can't touch it with your hands it kinda leaves a grey smudge (not permanently), i tend to use a micro fibre cloth and "Harley Gloss" alot.Apparently you shouldn't wash it with normal bike wash, i use a none related detergent (washing up liquid) itworks very well. Like a gloss finish it has it's pros and cons. I would have it again, my bike is12 months old with 5000+ miles andmost think it must be new, it's the only black paint job people will cross the road to look at.

A fewmembers haveposted negative comments on the pillion pad for the Street Bob, i personally think it looks crap, so i got a "Sidekick" seat which hasn't caused any damage to the fender, i just keep it clean under there. There are lots of different 2 up seats to suiteverybody tastesand they don't take to long to take off andreplace the nut inthe apropriatehole for the solo seat.

 

First welcome to the forum. As to your questions:

!) Not had a problem and haven't had a scratch - windex works well to clean most anything off the paint along with soap and water.
2) DEFINITELY!

I have blue denim, not black but I believe I can still give an opinion on the finish. I have found it does scratch a little easier than a gloss finish, that is a subjective thing and it is hard to say for sure. The issue I have is that I do not think I can buff a scratch out of this finish like I could a gloss clear coat finish but I cannot say that for sure either being I have not tried. REally I need to find someone that has delt with this paint a little more than I have to get an answer to that question.

I would buy the blue denim again even with the scratching issue.

 

the denim for sure scratches fast and easy, with no clear coat to protect it it's vulnerable. As said above, windex works perfect on the denim finish to clean it, but it won't take any scratches out. What you need to be careful about is zippers, watches, belt buckles and keys. about the pillion seat, as long as you don't keep it on for weeks and always clean the fender before and after you put the thing on you should be fine.

 

Had a 07 street Bob black denim. Buy a motorcycle dryer. Wash it with car soap and blow it dry. Denim is suppost to fade like a old pair of blue jeans with time. Denium really makes Chrome stick out and look good. Denim was really hot for 07. I want to see a new street Bob in Black denim. Want to ride one at open house next weekend if I can make it. They gonna have free demo rides.

 

Love the paint, take it to the car wash hose it off and dry it, touch-up with windex. This is my first HD so I don't have anything to compare it too. I think scratches and chips in the paint go along with the "painted it in the garage" look of the bike.

Skip the Harley passenger pillion, get an aftermarket seat. In a year and a half of desert sun, my paint doesn't seem to have faded, even when compared to new bikes at the dealer.

 

I have a Black Denim FXDB....10 months and 10000 miles and the paint looks like it did from day one....looking forward to it fading/wearing into a unique look...I went with a Sundowner 2 up seat...the stock seat is a real POS in my opinion.....the maroon looking Denim available on the 08s looks pretty good but I still like the black...people either love it or hate...I really dont give a crap what anyone thinks of my bike as long as i am happy with it....:&gt

Got Emails from H-D and my dealer. They said whatever I do. DO NOT take the bike to the CAR WASH and clean yer bike and do not use a pressure washer. They are having to replace a lot of parts on the bike because of the water being drove in them by the high pressure.
