Default poor fuel mileage

What can be done to improve fuel mileage. I am getting 32-35 mpg depends on how I ride that day.
I bought this bike used and dont know if carb was jetted or not.I am running SE pipes with K&N filter.
Any thoughts would be helpful..............
Mike

What year, model, engine, etc??

For comparision - I have an '06 Street Bob with TC88, 6 speed, and stage 1 upgrade (pipes, ac, & SERT). My EFI bike is rated at 44 mpg city, 50 mpg highway while the carbed TC88s of '06 were rated 42mpg city, 50 highway. In practice I've gotten more like 43 city, 50 highway before and after the stage 1. Tho I've hit 53mpg on several occasions riding with the local club I belong to (300-500 mile trips on smaller highways at 55-60MPH).

The newer ('07, '08) TC96 engines are rated for even better highway mileage (53, 54mpg respectively) but took a major beating around town (34, 35mpg) presumably due to tighter emission regs.

Sorry - but I just don't believe you're getting 56.25 mpg (225miles/4gal) on any big twin - never mind a 103.

ive gotten 54mpg on my 103 on many occassions, but usually get around 45. its all how im riding, if i just go easy, keep the revs down, sure i get great mileage, problem is, any one with a stroker is usually a throttle jockey as well, hence, the crappy mpg.
on my stock 88 ive got 61 mpg on a trip, thought i did the math wrong, re fueled, and sure as snot, got 60mpg on the next tank

02 fxd, low restriction slipons, K&N intake, #45 pri jet, #190 main jet, needle lifted by two .040 brass washers. low 40's around town and around 47-48 on the highways and byways. again it's all in how the wick is twisted.

Know when I set my tripometer and run and pull into a service station and fill her up what she used for the run on the interstate. Realize this we don't have big hills here either. Not much much stopping and going too.
Fuel injected bike with self tuning TM and 6 speed.
