I had this posted in another thread. But it applies here as well so please sit back and enjoy this educational experience.
In order to understand why Black is the best and fastest color, please see the scientific diagrams below, which I obtained from Dr. Boolsheet -- an industry leader in aerodynamics.

RE: Best Color for Wide Glide
Black. Good to see others agree. Wouldn't consider a motorcycle in any different color, much less my 2007 Wide Glide. And hey, it's even cheaper!
I must say, however, that the nice black glossy finish becomes very quickly scratched, or at least noticably scratched (as I imagine any color gets scratched, just easier to see with black), no matter what you do. Wax helps and I believe there are products out there that help hide the scratches like Turtle Wax Swirl remover but I haven't tried it. Regular car wax works well to hide the scratches.
And when I say scratches, I'm refering to those tiny scratches you really only notice in certain light or if the sun hits it a certain way. Any passerby wouldn't notice but hey, it's your bike and you notice!
Some advice.., do not wipe off any spilled gas on your tank with a paper towel. Before long the right side of your tank will look terrible. You can wax the hell out of it and it gets much better, but still. Just let it evaporate.
