I was going to go for the Metzler 880's, when I did my last tire change, but I went with the Avon Venom-X's instead. Mostly because I had went with Avon RoadRunners on all my previous changes and wanted to try out the Venom's this time around. I must say I am very impressed! These are a great tire, sticky as he11 wet or dry. The Dunlops, I got with the bike, had about 1/2 tread left when I switched and I must say it was a great choice.1,500 miles and very little wear, suprisingly.

I did the Dragon and Pikes Peak, and surrounding areas, with the RoadRunners and it was a blast! I can just imagine how much more of a blast it would be with these tires on there.

Another option: There's also Venom-R tires out there that are made specially for racing.

Internet time is limited at the current time or I would search a little deeper. I've looked some but haven't found exactly the answer I was looking for.
I want the widest, stickiest rear tire or tyre I can get that will fit a stock FXDS-Conv. without mods. Anyone know what that is? Will a 150 or larger Metzler 880 fit the stock wheel without problems? I know Dunlop fitment guide says 402 150/80 on a 3" wheel.

I put Metzler ME880's on my Sportster when the Dunlops wore off. The Metz were better in that they did not follow the road grooves as the Dunlops had, but the grip to me was not really that good. It seemed the tires were a little hard and the grease in the road would let them slide.

Gonna either put on more Dunlops when these wear out or going with Avon's. I don't worry about milage that much. I worry more about my health than I do the cost of tires.

Would not do Metz again, at any rate.

Bridgestone Battlax 020 (160/60R18 Rear, 19"front) stick like sh*t to a wool blanket.
Rear worn out after about 5000mi of twoup on mountain roadsin temps up to 100F...another going on.
Better have the bike set up for the amount of traction your going to get in the corners!

glide05: Thanks; the pipes are one piece2" Cycle Shack "M" pipes...I prefer the "stock" look. The ride is an '01 FXDXT we took down to the frame last winter. 103" by HQ, Sputhe motor mounts and aluminum swingarm, Excell rims, Lyndal brakes etc etc; my attempt at making a HD sport tourer. 100+ ft lbs from 2200 rpm; couldn't get that in a Beemer or Honda.

Sharkey

How was the sputhe stuff????

I have been looking at the sputhe swingarm and sputhe stabilizer for the motor mounts.
I have a 2005 DynaSuperGlideSport, progressive 440shocks..the front is already tuneable
Stage II bigbore and SE slip fit II pipes.....SERT dynotune 83HP & 93TQ...but I will go into the motor this winter
I wanrtoget the handling setup before adding more power
What swing arm bushings did you use with the sputhe swingarm
what suspension stuff are you running?
Thanks for any advice

Patch; smart to keep up with the handling AND power...
The Sputhe arm came with it's own bearing/bushing; great stuff. No more wallow in the curves.
Have 12.5" 418's on back; tubes slid up about 3/4" in front
I like the FXDXT's better than any other HD's.....

See if you can get Dunlop d205's in your wheel size. They are nice and sticky and last a while too. They don't come in my wheel size so I put on Metzlers. Much better than the stockers, but now I have a set of Harley Dunlop whitewalls on a new set of wheels here so I guess I am going to go backwards again...
