Update on the 'tinging' sound. It is definitely only while in motion and is not engine based, meaning RPM's don't matter. With my half helmet I can hear it loud and clear coming from the low left side of the bike. I didn't take a measurement but by my calibrated eye, I think my chain is too loose. Actually, looks like it might be hitting the top of the primary a bit so that could be my sound. I'll check it and tighten this weekend and follow up.

Been awhile since I’ve been on the forum, but picked this ‘95 FXDL up this spring for stupid cheap and have finally brought her up to respectable condition. Funny how a 30 year old clapped out Dyna can become an all time favorite.
Took it on its first overnight trip to see old friends and got 30 minutes from my destination and started smelling rotten eggs. Made it another 5 miles and lost all power. Regulator/rectifier gave up and just about blew up the battery. Lucky there was a good Indy in town and he had the part overnighted in and I replaced it in a buddy’s garage and was out the next day.
Obligatory stop at the only head shop in a 200 mile radius where I grew up when this bike was new in the ‘90s. 🤣

Here ya go. Drag pipes, hyper charger and sweet windscreen! Second pic on the lift was at PO’s shop. He claimed to be a HD mechanic. When I went to check out the bike, I took it for a ride, barely made it back to his shop bike cut off several times. I never looked at the fuel gauge, just assuming that a “mechanic” selling a bike would know it wouldn’t run because there was no fuel. Loaded the bike up in my trailer for half of what he was asking and when I got her home on my lift is when I realized it needed some gas to run. 🤣
Here’s another “now” pic. Quite happy with the way it turned out. I did get lucky on the mid controls, PO still had them, minus the special washer behind the brake pedal.
