What did you do to your Dyna today? ** Part 2 **

Without a doubt, that's a 12% increase in ratio.. Not even sure why you're going to chain. Belts are very strong today.. It's not necessary and it's just a lot of extra maintenance and cleaning...
I'm running belt still but have run chain in the past.. Currently using a 68 on the rear and 5th gear is similar to what the older FXR's were with a 3.42:1.. The nice thing is that 4th gear will get me through the traps at 114 mph without losing time to another shift.. According to my Dragy...
Your 4th gear will be topped out at 100 mph and your cruise in 6th at 70 will be 3000 rpm.. 80 will be 3450... Good luck..

Took a quick spin on my new-to-me 16 Low Rider. Bike only has 4000 miles but has been sitting for some time. Takes a few more cranks than it should during a cold start and then runs a little rough so I'm hoping it's just old gas and nothings clogged up. So I added some seafoam and hoping it's just something like a dirty injector before I start replacing stuff in the tank. Previous owner left some good scratches in the tank so tons of elbow grease and HD scratch remover works really well. Other than that, it's in great shape and runs surprisingly strong being 100% bone stock.

I'm not going to pretend I went chain drive for any other reason than it was a cool guy upgrade at the time... mostly. I did want to experiment with different gearing also. You're 100% right about belts though. They can last as long as most people own their bikes. At some point I will get a softie ST and I doubt I'll go chain on it. I don't dislike the chain drive in any way either though.

Same reasoning for me, and really, there isn't a lot of maintenance. Keep an eye on the slack, clean and lube every oil change, done. When I was a kid falling in love with Harley, they were all chain drive. When I was old enough to actually buy one, they had gone belt, and I was always bummed about that since I felt like a "real" Harley had a chain. Doing the conversion satisfied the 10-year-old me still living in my heart.

All grown up!
This was a big month in adulting for me. Got my own costco membership lmao and finally off the ground in the garage. I did buy an aftermarket wheel chock. I did not like the one that came on the lift. An extra 50 bucks from Amazon. It was an open box and normally sells for 70.

Managed to get the rear wheel and suspension off before work. I need a socket I don't have. I'll start in tomorrow for a couple hours before work again. This project is the swingarm, new rear rotor, new shocks and probably brake pads. Lots of swearing in my near future. Less than if I was attempting this on the ground. I should of bought the lift years ago!
