I understand why you're upset. You paid a shop to work on you bike and they did a poor job and caused a major failure that could have put you in the hospital. If that wheel locked up on the freeway.......

That's why I took their generalized statement with a grain of salt ... turns out, obviously worthless.

Guess they really didn't know "where it shouldn't have been"

I mostly agree with you, but not everyone has the ability, means, tools, space, etc. to work on their own bike, and there are some people who do work on their own and shouldn't. You can't put a guy down for hiring the work out.

The problem is that there are 4 parties involved.

1. Lock plate guys
2. HD mechs
3. The PCer
4. The Owner.

All have some responsibly here. Who is ultimately responsible.

The owner took any of the parts to HD shop and told them to install the parts. Responsibility lies with the owner. He's the lead motivator. If he took bike to the dealer and had them do the whole process, then they'd be responsible.

Look plate could be a bad design and PCer could have screwed up but if further up the line isn't checking stuff like this is going to happen. Obviously the second shop wasn't too observant either.

Look at the illustration in post #103.

The three bolt heads wired together, the wire should loop around the head on the other side, all three bolts in the pic have the wire on the wrong side of the bolt head.

This is one of the issues that will cause safety wire to fail.

The two bolts on the left are correct, the wire runs on the correct side.

There is more to it than just pulling tight.

After you have safety wired thousands of fasteners on aircraft, you spot the mistakes in a glance.

There are a lot of awful videos on you tube, showing improper methods.

I know I`m nitpicking since it is just a motorcycle, but those bolts backing out could kill someone.

Excellent catch Dan. Thank you. Sometimes doing over and over mistakes can happen without notice. I will rewire immediately.
