Default RE: What is the 2500 mile service?

ORIGINAL: mywideglide

I put my 2007 wide glide in today for the 1000 mile service. My book calls for the next service at 5000. The service tech said I should bring it back at 2500. I said the book calls for 1000...then 5k, 10k, 15k...etc... He said that the routine was every 2500 miles...my manual says every 5000 miles. Do you think the shop is just trying to generate business????

The book says every 5k. I know the 2500 schedule wont hurt my bike...(EXCEPT MY POCKETBOOK) What gives...Harley gave me a book that says every 5000...why is the shop saying evry 2500????

Nowhere in the book does it ever mention 2500 for anything???? Your imput.

Thanks
Now that the dealer did yer 1st oil change. Git yerself a service manual either from the dealer or Jp cycles. Learn how to do yer own oil change. git you a small plastic pan that will fit under yer bike from Walley world to drain the oil into and a funnel .
Being its a air cooled motor. I would change it every 2500 miles. I use synthetic and even do it 2500 miles. Its about 60.00 for parts even if you buy the oil and filter from the dealer.
The motor takes 3 quarts. the transmission 1 quart. The primary 1 quart. Think the primary is a torx #27 to take the bolts out. I tend to forgit every now and then.
You can buy a chrome filter and the oil and save a bundle doing it yerself. Keep all yer receipts on the oil filter, and oil and put them in a ledger so if you have a problem you can show the dealer you have done regular maintenance on yer bike.

Wow, I don't feel so bad now about paying a little extra for my bike. Everyone tells me that I overpaid by about $1000 from the dealership I bought from. However, they also crap themselves when I tell them that I got all of my scheduled maintenance for free, yes FREE, when I bought the bike, for as long as I own the bike. It's a 2007, and I was told that this was a promotion that was going on. Didn't anyone else manage to get that deal?

If you got the bike for for a good price and yer happy with the price that's all that counts. Just ride and enjoy it and make it yer own. Yer the only person that counts dude.

I switched mine at the 5K to synthetic and plan on changing every thing every 5K which is what I think it says in the owners manual.

I agree Special Ed 5000 is what they say you can go to. Its fine. would check my oil a little more often if I went to 5000 miles. Don't ask me how this writing got sideways either.
I just hammer my bike. I run at 100mph a lot and faster. So that's another reason I change mine. Its not the oil that goes bad its the crap that gits in the oil.
No more than what it cost me to change my oil I don't worry about the cost. I am concerned about my bike and my riding style.

i agree, at 5k i will go synthetic and yes RIDE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT!!! best break in there is for a V-twin. too many people lug the V-twin, me, i bang the rev limiter a few times a week just to keep it in the "***** to the wall" ready. 2nd day i owned the bike was on the rev limiter a few times, less than 100 miles. so far only good vibs. will know in a few years if the therory was correct. (if not time to stroke it anyway's)

I bang my rev limiter just to check it out in 1st and 2nd gear. but when I hit 103 in 3rd and 120 in 4th. I still ain't bumped the rev limiter. My rev limiter hits and I git chicken little. I've been to over 120 many times in 5th gear and was still pulling like a train.
I need to slow down some at my age. Scard the man might sneak up on me too.
