Default Help me choose Ohlins rear shocks

Getting an Ohlins cartridge kit + piggyback rears for my FXDWG. FWIW, it has the SE120R engine installed.

Currently the bike sits on some Progressive rear shocks which measures:

Shock length: 290mm / ~11 3/8"
Rider sag length: 275mm / ~10 7/8"

I do not know what has been done to the front end but I assume it has received some sort of lowering as the bike sits level:

It is simple enough to choose the front end cartridge kit as there is only one Ohlins part# to choose from It is however harder to know what exactly it will do to the front end when installed and correct sag is set.

Ohlins has 2 rear shocks to choose from:
HD763, 305mm / ~12"
HD764 336mm / ~13.2"

They have different stroke lengths and if I assume sag to be 1/3 of stroke, the installed lengths with rider sag becomes:
HD763 283mm / ~11 1/8"
HD764 306mm / ~12"

I would like the bike to end up level or ever so slightly forward leaning when all is said and done. I would not like it to appear very raised / tall. And I would like to ride the hell out of it

I am clearly overthinking this and would love to hear some real life experience

Which shock would you choose?

JT

I have Öhlins 765 Blacklines on my Street Bob. They are 13.2”. Front suspension is Traxxion Dynamics AR25 kit.

if you’re looking to stay low, then I guess the HD763 is what you want. However, “and I’d like to ride the hell out of it”………you’ll be able to do plenty of that, but really only in a straight line. Unless you don’t mind dragging pipes and pegs.

When I bought my Street Bob is was stock in every way. Pipes and pegs dragged on every curve around my local riding area. Personally, for me, I don’t like that feeling one bit. Got rid of the stock pipes for a 2n1 and 13” shocks cured the startling feeling of hard parts touching down.

Get the 13” shocks. Stock is 12”. I got aftermarket shocks and wish I had opted the 13”. With the sag the increased height is nil due to the fact of sag and since the shocks are not perpendicular to the swing arm.

but you’ll need to know if the front has been lowered as well. And if so replace, good chance to upgrade. Lowering kits on motorcycles are useless if you plan to actually ride the bike.

Hadn't thought about the angle. Was leaning towards 13", now even more so. Thanks

I've got the Blacklines and they're about 13-2" and GP Suspension 25mm cartridges in front..... If performance is your goal for new suspension, 13" is the only way to go.... Travel is travel no matter the suspension, the more travel the better and staying off the bumps tops. Not to mention, the taller shock will help with some of the slacker rake in the twistys.
