Default PGR Saturday - DFW Area

If anyone wants to get out and ride for a GREAT cause on Saturday, the Patriot Guard is working with the Soldiers' Angels to support an Operation Iraqi Freedon vet. Read on...

This vet returned wounded and was hospialized for several months. During that time, his wife left him and all off his possessions were stored in a warehouse in California. She didn't pay the bill and the warehouse was about to auction off his stuff when the Soldiers' Angels stepped to pay the bill.

A PGR Ride Captain from California is driving the stuff to Arlington Texas to deliver it to the soldier's home. We are staging a group of riders to hook up with him and ride in and make the drop in Arlington. It's going to be a blast with flags waving and motors revving as we pull in. If anyone wants to join us, drop me an email at ktm_scott@yahoo.com or PM me here and I'll send you the details.

All bikes and riders are welcome.

I'm in, man. Shoot me the details per our phone discussion. I think that this is a great cause and I urge other forum members in the DFW area to join up as well.

By popular request...

I'm forwarding a long thread so you can get a
feel for what all is going on Saturday. There are
actually two events, but one is 120 miles from Dallas
in Ranger, Tx. Many of us are going to both, but many
others are staging in for the Arlington run to the
Soldier's home that I mentioned on HDF. That said,
read the text below and get back to me if you want
more details.

Scott

The Patriot Guard has two opportunities to serve our
community and our Soldiers this Saturday, August 4th.

FIRST EVENT: Dedication of the Sacred Stone, Vietnam
War Memorial in Ranger, Texas

SECOND EVENT: Help On The Homefront (HOTH) Mission for
Joseph Chandler, Iraq War Veteran. This Mission is to
support the movement of Mr. Chandler's household goods
from California to his home in Arlington. This Hero
was
recently released from the VA Hospital and this
Mission is a joint effort between the PGR and
Soldier's Angels.

Weather forecast indicates a slight chance of
scattered showers. Plan on HOT temperatures and great
riding weather.

Details, directions and staging information for both
events follows. Riders are invited and encouraged to
participate in either or both events.

The citizens of Ranger, TX have invited the PGR to
participate in the dedication of The Sacred Stone, a
Vietnam War Memorial honoring those who served from
Ranger. This small town had 78 veterans who served in
Vietnam and a total of 184 who served during the
Vietnam era. The City has invited dignitaries from the
Governors staff, the Attorney General's office, the
Under Secretary of Veterans Affairs, dignitaries from
the American Legion, VFW, and DAV. The Stone will be
unveiled by Lieutenant General Richard Carey, USMC
(ret) and Mrs. L.M. Rogers, a Gold Star Mother from
Ranger whose son made the ultimate sacrifice in
Vietnam. Fort Hood will provide an Apache helicopter
flyover.

Ranger is located off of I-20 about half way between
Abilene and Ft Worth. Those going West on I-20 from
the Ft Worth area, take Exit 354 and continue west on
E. Loop 254 about 2 or 3 miles into Ranger. Those
going East on I-20 from Abilene, take Exit 349 and go
North on W. Loop 254 / FM 2461 about 2 to 3 miles into
Ranger.

RIDE CAPTAINS: Milard Herweck MelLaneHerweck@aol.com
and Cecil Yoder c-b-y@sbcglobal.net

STAGING IN RANGER:

Municipal Park near the swimming pool in the 800 block
of W. Main in Ranger, Texas. Riders briefing will be
at 9:15 and KSU at 9:30. As the streets will be
blocked off for our arrival, we will ride 2 - 4
abreast, through town on Main Street led by David Hall
with the Liberty Bell to the WWII Memorial Park where
the ceremony will take place. The Flag Line in place
by 10:30 for the ceremony starting at 11:00.

SECOND EVENT: Ranger to Arlington Staging Point
Staging for the return trip to Fort Worth will begin
ASAP after the Sacred Stone Dedication Ceremony
(approx 12:00 noon). Mike (Tiny) Minton, PGR R/C from
California will accompany our group with Joseph
Chandler's possessions in a U-Haul truck. After a
brief safety meeting, we will head east to the Cracker
Barrel where the DFW Riders left from that morning. We
will make a short stop for riders needing fuel and a
restroom break before heading the final 20 miles to
Arlington.

PGR is an outstanding group. I joined and then deployed so have not been able to join any rides. The unfortunate reality is, when I return I will be able to ride to honor these heroes. Also if needed, give my email out to any of these guys. I'm not wounded, but did lose a wife and 3 kids to this line of work and I hope I can help in any way. Ride safe PGR, thank you. chadmiller62102@earthlink.net
