96ci in a 2000 fxdx??
Hey everyone, wondering if anyone has put a stock 96ci into an older dyna. I currently have a 2000 fxdx and I have bought a 96ci engine from a later model dyna. Just wondering what I'm going to need to do to make the newer engine fit. I am sticking with carb and not flipping to efi firstly because I like the carb better and secondly because I don't want to get a new tank. Just looking for some input f rom someone who has done it before.

Hey man, no need to be a dick about it. I’m not asking if it’s easy or plug and play. I know it’s not. Welding isn’t an issue. I asked if anyone has done it and what to anticipate. People put twin cams in fxr’s all the time, those aren’t supposed to fit either. But they are made to.

As said, the older 5 speed tranny case isn't compatible with the newer motor. You'd be ahead in the long run to complete the new assembly with an '06 / later tranny and fit the whole unit in as one piece in the older frame.
Since you're halfway there however, I gotta' point out that my '00 95" motor has 170,000 MILES on it and still doesn't burn a drop of oil (and has never had the cases split either,) so you might take that into consideration given that your original motor only has 70,000 actual miles on it.
But your bike, your call.
