Default New exhaust, O2 sensors are too big?

Hey all hoping for a little help here. I have a 2007 Dyna Super Glide Custom (FXDC), 96ci TC. It had Screaming Eagle exhaust which was fine but too quiet and not the look I am after (long, chrome)! I bought a set of V&H Short Shots and was to the point of setting the new pipes in (new gaskets, bracket installed, etc.) And went to put the O2 sensor in the bung and wouldn't you know it, it doesn't fit...not even close. The O2 sensor on the bike was a 22mm (wrench size I used, cannot read the tiny *** print on the sensor to know the part number) but it is so big the sensor tip won't go in the new pipe bung hole. It is very clear the sensor size is wrong (for the new pipes) so I am not sure what to do here, run no sensors (doesn't feel right to do that, and I expect it would throw a code) or do I just need to get new sensors to fit the smaller bung hole (is that even possible?)

I'll also mention I said bung hole 2 times without making even one Beavis and Butthead type joke, my inner 13yo is having a tough time holding back...

Thanks for your assist on this!

Those pipes are for the newer Dynas, someone will be along here very soon with much more information about this.

You'll need to get different pipes with 18mm bungs or you can buy new 18mm bungs and have them weldded in..

Nope, the pipes have 18mm bungs in them. The O2 sensors on my bike are bigger (22mm?) And do not fit the hole in the pipes (they are too small).

Your pipes have 12mm bung holes. The bike has 18mm o2 sensors. You can order 18mm bungs and have the welded in. Or Screamin eagle sells a kit to drill out the 12mm bung and retap to 18mm. $$$$$$$ Bungs are cheaper.

You are spot on, I busted out the calipers and the O2 sensor measures 18mm at threads, and the bung measures 10mm.

Does anyone know if it is possible to run without O2 for a while without harming the motor? Trying to figure my long and short-term options. The pipes were used and advertised as the correct fitment for the year, clearly, that was wrong, though they do physically fit the bike. I would need to plug the bungholes for now and disconnect the sensors until I get new pipes direct from the manufacturer. I would try to tap the bungs but the recess in the pipe for the sensor doesn't have the room (from the look of it) for the 22mm hex to even fit.

I don't think the ECM will work correctly without the O2 sensor input. The air/fuel mixture is controlled by the ECM. Welding in new correctly sized bungs is probably the easiest fix, other than buying another set of pipes. Would be a simple job for a good welder. Probably not what you want to hear, I know. I don't see another option but maybe someone else has an idea. Good luck 🤞
