Lol, amen to that...

To each their own but drag bars and mids belong on a Sporty.

I want a touring bike, but at 5'5" Or so (now, used to 5'7") with a 29" inseam, I wonder if the touring bikes will be to difficult to handle maneuvering to park. Not the actual rolling part, even slow speed I think I will be fine that way. Rather more like backing in parking spaces etc. if its a little uphill, which I try to avoid, the touring bikes are a lot of bike to push around.

For the record I will be 67 in a month or so, and weigh 180, and in decent shape.
The real answer is what your are comfortable with. I've had Sportster's and Dyna's. My vote is the Dyna as the Sportster is a great bike but always felt beat up after riding the scooter...particularly on the highway. Honestly, I own Harley's but also have a BMW largely because of the reverse switch. I'm a 6'1, 165 guy but at 66 years old have the similar challenges. With the BMW I just hit reverse and the throttle...no problem

Forwards are definitely cool, both in appearance and function. My Sportster came with them stock, and my dyna came with them fitted by the previous owner; it's now my preferred way to ride, and I am no slouch in the twisties. I realise that some forwards are extreme, but the ones I've had on my bikes have been just forward enough to make my legs comfortable, but not so far forward as to hinder the handling. Now, when I ride a bike with mids, I feel uncomfortably cramped. But, as others have said, each to their own. What works for some won't be ideal for others.

Handirifle,
Your sig photo caught my eye. Lived in Paso for 20 years and spent a lot of time at the saloon back in the 70's when I was going to Cal Poly and used to ride dirt bikes.
We used to ride the benefit poker run put on by the Monkeys. We were the only white BMW there.
Lot of good riding in that area, both dirt and street.
