Default 01 FXDL makeover.

After being bikeless since 2016 I picked this 01 Low Rider last fall. Original owner, 6700 miles and had been sitting in a living room for the better part of 15 years. I rode it home and tore into it immediately. Put new Dunlop’s on, all fluids, replaced neck and swinger bearings, rebuilt the CV and a set of plugs and wires. Cosmetic and comfort changes first were some Biltwell 8” riders, hi-trackers, grips and whiskey tube. MoonsMC lighting front and rear with integrated turns, lay down plate, shift linkage and a top to bottom detail. Added a Big Sucker and Thunderheader for some oomph and sounds. Rode it like that until the cold set in. I’m December I started accumulating parts for stage 2 which included a BMC/Corbin seat, 1/4 fairing with tinted lenses, Thunderheader heat shields, some Biltwell Rocker pegs fr and rr, 12pt polished hardware, and a Invisivin.

I wanted a dual disc setup so I ordered a right side leg from Surdyke (still waiting) Brembo bagger calipers, 11/16 master cyl, 11.8” front and 11.5 rear polished rotors, Tracker Die +2 damper tubes, RaceTech gold valves, .95kg springs and Speed Merchant preload adjusters. Out back I picked up a set of like new FXDX shocks. Did all new Lyndall pads and new wheel bearings too.

Front end is torn down waiting for my fork leg so may get ambitious and either polish or paint the lowers. Maybe not. Here’s some then and now progress and detail pics.

Looks damn good! Going through a similar process right now with a ‘99 I picked up last year. It’s a lot of fun

Nice, I'm building an 01 FXDL here too. Albeit in Japan so shipping takes a little longer to get stuff. Haha.

Nice bike! Later this summer I will be doing the same to my 2000 FXDL. It's been sitting for about six years and needs a lot of TLC. Yours looks fantastic..

What exhaust is that? Looks like what I am looking for... The 2 into 1 exhaust?

Hope you went with the heavy duty springs on the front, it'll ride like a bike.

What carb are you running? If you are wanting to stay with the Cv40 look for the killer mike carbs, great carb, will be tuned to what you have done..

Sweet fxdl, kinda weird though that they didn't put dual disk on those when my '98 has them.

2000 was the last year (until "back again" in 2014) for dual disc on a FXDL Low Rider

pipes a Thunderheader. Carb is a stock CV. I went with .95kg springs up front.

thank you. I’ve gone milder and I’ve gone wilder with builds. This ones in the middle and suits me fine since I don’t ride quite as ignorant as I used to lol. I live in CO now so lots of wide open spaces and windy mountain roads. Needed to be able to enjoy both. It’s getting power next year but for now all the suspension and braking will make it a fun bike to throw around.
