Default Custom (Hand-Made) Exhaust 88ci Twin Cam

Was just curious how many of you have built your own, or modified an existing exhaust system. Pretty sure I have the equivalent to the V&H Short Shots, and I was thinking about lobbing a few inches off the end and fabbing a collector and maybe a short muffler. I haven't started anything yet, so any experience y'all cold throw my way is much appreciated. Thanks!

You win the BadAssimus rider of the day there Mr. Abominal Snowman!

Good job on your pipes but that has to be mighty loud if those are straight pipes!

Think you're gonna need chains.

I remember when I was young and tried to ride on the snow -- twice. Yes, that's right, crashing once must have been a fluke so had to try again.

Haha, was just a quick run to the grocery store.

Those are the pipes that came on the bike though.
The baffles have been removed.
I am rolling around the idea of attaching a collector to the end and making it a 2-into-1 on the cheap.

Hahaha, it was a little slick, new rubber helped a little. Luckily it was a short trip and I was able to keep it up. Wasn't too awful different form riding down a gravel road once I got goin.

I have pieced together a few exhausts before. Last I heard they were still rolling around lol. First one was repairing/updaing a cracked thunderheader on a 96 solid mount sporty (they like to crack the front pipe at the bend). We bought some mandrel bent piece on flea bay and cut out the portions we needed to replace the cracked piece (simply welding the crack will not last long). We also changed the angle of the T header muffler portion.

Also used a stock 2-1 off a newer low rider, and grafted a gutted T header to it. Even made our own "baffle" out of some expanded steel lol.

The issue I see is those pipes dont really come that close together, so getting a collector that will fit might be slightly difficult, but if you are over the pipes but dont have cash for new ones, but do have a welder, go for it!!

That's awesome! I have heard some horror stories of Thunderheaders notorious cracks. A buddy of mine ran a hand made pipe one his 06 Low Rider and it broke all the time. If I can find the time to fiddle with some tubing and tools, I'll be sure to post any progress. XD
